Job description
Salary: Competitive
Closing Date: Friday 19th May 2023 at 9.00am
Interview Dates: Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th May 2023
The Trustees of QUEST wish to appoint an outstanding new Principal and are seeking an inspirational and talented leader with an unshakeable belief in the right of children to high-quality technical education. This is a really exciting opportunity and a great time to join our Trust - the person we appoint will be able to quickly make a real difference to hundreds of young people’s life chances.
The school is a University Technical College (UTC), a part of the Quest Multi Academy Trust and licensed by the Baker Dearing Educational Trust. We have an aspiration and determination to deliver exceptionally high quality technical and academic education for all students who attend our school. The UCS is extended UTC, encompassing Key Stage 3 as well as the more traditional UTC age range of KS4 and 5. The school has modern, comprehensive facilities and is located on the campus of the University of Bolton.
The person appointed will be a strong and resilient leader, who is committed to delivering the very best for every student, and every member of staff, at the school. They will also understand, and believe in, the ethos and practicalities of a UTC and the difference a high quality technical education can make to young people’s life chances.
The UCS was inspected by Ofsted in December 2022, judged ‘Inadequate’, and placed in to Special Measures. During this inspection inspectors raised a large number of very serious concerns – the UCS Ofsted report is availablehere.
Since then we have taken action and there are many positives: - a new IEB has been in place since late February 2023, an interim headteacher since March 2023 and the most urgent issues are now being addressed. In addition, recent intensive engagement with the staff, student and parent bodies shows they are all supportive of the school and its much needed improvement journey.
We are now looking to appoint a new permanent Principal for the school, to lead the staff and students with vision and passion and ensure that, in the future, the UCS delivers an outstanding technical and academic education for the community it serves.
This will be a challenge: students at UCS need their school to improve very quickly, which will require a leader who has significant successful experience leading schools in highly challenging circumstances.
The new Principal will have support – from the CEO, the Quest Trust and, as a UTC, from the Baker Dearing Trust.
We welcome, and strongly encourage, any interested candidates to visit the school prior to submitting an application.
Please contact the Head Office on 01942 834000 or email Tonianne Hewitt at [email protected] to arrange a visit.
