Principal, Commercial Strategy (Distribution) - 12 month FTC
- Develop and evolve the commercial strategy for our channels over the next five years
- Define distribution KPIs and set our ambition for these
- Build a strategy for ensuring key enablers are agreed and aligned to support delivery of distribution KPIs
- Ensure governance is in place to track the status of key enablers and update the strategy as we understand the impact of those enablers
- Lead business cases for strategic initiatives (or represent Commercial if led by other division)
- Represent Commercial with Exec updates relating to Consumer Distribution
- Whilst it is important our channel strategy is developed in an environment that is not constrained by current trading challenges, it is important to have an awareness of the existing trading operating model and our own capability when developing the strategy. You will be expected to keep close and consult with our Planning & Trading teams when building the strategy and commercial ambition. Equally, you will need to support Planning teams as the strategy is embedded in to detailed plans.
- Ability to influence senior leaders at Consumer Executive (CEO and MD-level) level, and gain support for strategic decisions
- Alignment of recommendations across the following stakeholders at Director level: Consumer Finance, Channel Trading (esp Commercial Optimisation), Commercial Planning & Trading, Marketing (Props, pricing, media, brand, BV&P), Consumer Commercial Channels, Channel Communications & Digital.
- Advanced knowledge of the UK, European and US telecoms market supported by a strong understand of other markets globally. Including understanding reported performance of key partners and competitors (UK and overseas) and the future implications on the market and therefore BT Consumer
- Detailed knowledge for customer buying trends across telecoms, media, technology and electronics sectors.
- Experienced in customer life cycle opportunities with a strong feel for opportunities and risks supported by strong commercial acumen.
- Ability to make fast decisions often without complete information based on experience and knowledge to the market and key competitor behaviours.
- Previous background in commercial / P&L accountability
- Qualified track record of delivering financial performance from a sizable P&L / channel
- Experience in designing and delivering commercial strategy supported by activities that can be demonstrated to have performed in the market.
- Extensive experience operating in a FTSE 100 commercial environment, engaging / influencing at MD / director level and leading cross-functional teams
- Experience operating in an agile environment desirable
- Experience managing a team of commercial managers / analysts (direct and virtual)
- Commercial context – understand market implications from commercial approach
- Leadership – Managing virtual teams across BT group to get best commercial outcome for BT consumer.
- Telco experience
- Knowledge of financial and legal implications
- Strong influencing and relationship skills
