We’re recruiting a Primary Mental Health worker with outstanding communication skills to join a newly formed team within Children’s Social Care who help young people at risk of exploitation and serious violence.
As part of our new Contextual Safeguarding Team, you’ll work with young people and their parents and carers to offer mental health support and make personalised interventions that reduce the risk of violence.
You’ll have well rounded skills developed through both formal training and experience: you’ll understand the impact of knife carrying, gangs and other safeguarding concerns, and will use excellent skills of persuasion to deal with highly charged and contentious situations.
You may need to overcome challenging and aggressive behaviour, as well as comprehension or language difficulties.

You may be required to travel, so a full UK driving licence is essential. An enhanced DBS check is also required.
Role Responsibilities- Using your training and experience to offer mental health support and assess and deliver appropriate intervention plans which address the needs of vulnerable families who are at risk of contextual safeguarding concerns.
- Work in a multi-agency approach to support the young people through a Young Person’s Plan or Child Protection Plan.
- Use your experience and knowledge of safeguarding and work within Local Authority processes to ensure the appropriate safeguarding of children and young people.
- Be pro-active, flexible and creative in supporting the team and young people.
- A want for supporting young people who are at risk of contextual safeguarding concerns with their mental health.
- Relevant professional qualification/accreditation in either a psychological or therapeutic field.
- Have a trauma informed approach to mental health and support.
- Able to engage and be persistent with difficult to reach young people and parents.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and good IT skills with the ability to complete and present holistic assessments. This includes the requirement to analyse, summarise and write/record relevant information clearly and concisely so that it is easily understood by young people, parents and colleagues.
- Ability to work as part of a multi-agency and multi-disciplinary team working co-operatively in partnership with other professionals and agencies to meet the needs of the child and young person, parents and/or victims and has some experience or understanding of working with young people under a statutory framework.
- Must be a self-motivating, self-directed and resilient individual with the ability to display initiative but also to work under direction and under a statutory framework.
- Take responsibility for quality and completion of own work within standards, with the flexibility to adapt to change and contribute significantly to, and lead service development in designated areas.
- Able to find imaginative and cost-effective solutions to meet service user’s needs.
- Flexible and willing approach to working hours.
- A strong commitment to person-centred, anti-oppressive and anti-discriminatory practice.
