Job description

Position Title: Early Childhood Educator
Location: Sechelt YMCA Child Care Centre, 5538 Shorncliffe Ave, Sechelt (Sunshine Coast)
Terms: Permanent, Full-Time
Hours of Work: 35 - 40 hours per week
Schedule: Monday – Friday, shifts vary between 7:30AM - 6PM
Rate: Effective, January 1, 2022 the new rate will be $22.24 per hour for ECE License & $23.20 per hour for ECE IT and SN License. Plus an additional $4 per hour for Licensed ECE’s as per the Provincial Government’s Wage Enhancement Initiative

About YMCA Childcares:
The YMCA of Greater Vancouver is the largest provider of licensed childcare in Western Canada, with over thirty Early Years locations across the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley and Sunshine Coast. Featuring our YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum, our childcare centers offer infant, toddler, 3-5 and preschool programs. Major Responsibilities:
  • Provide quality care and creative programming to children
  • Build meaningful and positive relationships with children and families
  • Work with your team to create a supportive and safe environment for both staff and families
  • Deliver high quality and age-appropriate programs based on the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum
  • Provide active supervision at all times and work as a team to support transitions between play areas
  • Use our parent communication app (Weemarkable) to provide daily communication and updates
  • Keep a clean and safe environment – in all program areas and common spaces (with enhanced cleaning protocols for COVID-19)
  • Follow all YMCA, Child Care Facility Licensing (CCFL) and legal requirements, including YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum standards

Qualifications/Experience:
  • Basic ECE certification from a program recognized in British Columbia
  • Infant Toddler Educator (ITE) License required
  • Special Needs Educator (SNE) is an asset
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Any training related to child growth and development is an asset
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR-C & AED certificate required (can be obtained within 30 days after start date)
  • 3 professional reference checks to be completed
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
  • The YMCA has implemented a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy requiring all staff and volunteers to be fully vaccinated, as per the timeline set out by the province
