Job description

We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Sonographer to join our team as a Practice Educator. We are looking to appoint a Sonographer who is highly skilled and experienced in general, gynaecology and obstetric ultrasound and passionate about sonography education.

The post holder will work closely with the current ultrasound leadership team, to develop the strategic vision and to manage an increasing need for ultrasound training. They will be responsible for organising and co-ordinating all the educational and training requirements necessary for all staff (multi-professional) in the Ultrasound Departments across UHBW sites.

They will contribute to aspects of departmental management, working within the Ultrasound Leadership team and representing ultrasound in appropriate forums.

There will be some overlap between roles of educator, mentor, coaching and management.

The postholder will be required to work core hours (weekdays, 9am – 5pm) and participate in a rota for weekend cover. Flexible working opportunities are open to discussion.

  • To lead and enhance delivery of clinical education in the workplace, responsible for organising and co-ordinating all the educational and training requirements necessary for all staff (multi-professional) in the Ultrasound Departments within UHBW across the modality.
  • Maximise training and education capacity and resources in accordance with clinical governance, developing and maintaining a quality system for this purpose.
  • To provide a high quality, timely ultrasound service to patients by developing and educating a flexible, multi-skilled, professional workforce.
  • To perform and provide a diagnostic report for a comprehensive range of examinations including, but not limited to General Medical and Gynaecology and Obstetrics, demonstrating expertise in the use of medical ultrasound techniques and showing a thorough understanding of their application.
  • To provide some aspects of department management, working within the Ultrasound Leadership team and representing ultrasound in appropriate forums.
  • Contribute to the development of the ultrasound service.
