Job description

Job Overview / Purpose

Working within the communications department and in close partnership with the marketing, operations, people and real estate teams, the Manager, Communications and Public Relations supports the development of communications strategies and initiatives to further enhance and safeguard Chartwell’s brand internally and externally as well as to drive business priorities. This includes corporate initiatives as well as projects specific to individual residences. This role also offers editorial oversight and strategic direction to other members of the Communication team, helping to prioritize projects, meet deadlines and ensure sufficient support where needed.

Key Accountabilities
  • Works closely with operations and corporate partners to develop and execute communications plans, letter writing, copy-editing, key messaging, townhalls and events.
  • Supports the development and execution of strategies and initiatives to enhance communications and engagement with employees, residents, and their families.
  • Supports the development of public relations strategies for a wide range of projects from brand awareness to business and local marketing strategies to real estate projects.
  • Manages communications for The Chartwell Foundation (TCF) through the execution of internal and external strategies and initiatives, including public relations, website management and resident, family and employee communications.
  • Acts as a liaison with between Chartwell and third-party agency to support the foundation’s work, including support on wish execution, fundraising strategies and wish execution.
  • Works closely with Sr. Director in managing and responding to media requests on behalf of our residence and corporate support teams, including written statements, research, and interview coordination (when required).
  • Develops and executes media pitches to generate positive news coverage, stakeholder engagement and investor perception.
  • Manages external agency relationships aligned with budget expectations (when required).
  • Works closely with Sr. Director in crisis and issue management in support of our residence and corporate teams, including the development of reputational strategies and initiatives.
  • Collaborates with Sr. Manager in Quebec on to ensure the departments editorial content is developed and provided to the translations team in a timely manner.
  • Works closely with the content and social media teams to execute editorial corporate content and strategies across our digital platforms.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree from a recognized institution in the area of communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or a related field.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of communications and public relations experience.
  • Experience with crisis and issues management and media relations.
  • Experience with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) work within a corporate environment is an asset
  • Experience in a health care, seniors housing and/or corporate environment is an asset.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset

Skills & Abilities:

  • Effective communicator possessing strong written, oral and presentation skills.
  • An exceptional command of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • An understanding and familiarity with brand building and brand management.
  • A strong knowledge of journalism, public relations best practices and media management.
  • In-depth understanding of print, digital and social media platforms.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to interact with at all levels of the organization.
  • Critical thinker with creative problem-solving skills
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills within a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong computer skills - Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Power Point and Word.

Effort and Working Conditions

  • This job requires a mix of sitting, and moving, with both computer-based work and verbal communication and balancing priorities between different stakeholders.
