This Role:
The technician is on the ground, keeping the ‘back office’ of pottery running smoothly. Birch’s pottery studio is a busy, hub of activity. There are classes 7 days a week which is a LOT of pottery. You will be the eyes and ears of the pottery studio. Working closely with the Head of pottery, you will be reporting on any issues that occur (client based or technically). You will be in charge of all the practical parts of the operation from materials to tools, restocking or replacing.
This role also lets you be creative. At Birch, we like to utilise the in-house pottery studio and show off what we can do. This means the pottery department will get some exciting (and sometimes slightly odd) requests from other departments to create work from door numbers to reserved signs, events tableware to room décor. Your work will be “on show” throughout the site.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
· In charge of ensuring that all items are glazed to the guests colour choice.
· In charge of loading and firing the items into the kilns
· Ensuring all guest pottery is packed safely and sent to their specified addresses in a timely manner.
· Ensuring that all left over clay is reused managing the clay reclaiming process.
· Teaching (covering classes with no teachers)
· Tidying studio (tools, slip pots, shelves, tables, etc)
· Updates on stock/ordering stock
· Condensing work on drying shelves
· Running of Cheshunt Pottery Email (if clients have any questions or chasing pottery)
Statutory Responsibilities
· To ensure all team members within the department observe all Fire, Health & Safety and Food Safety regulations attending any training sessions necessary to keep them updated on
new legislation ensuring compliance with all current legal requirements. To be aware of your responsibilities in accordance with the company H&S procedures.
Unspecified Duties
To carry out any other reasonable requests which would help to ensure that all guest expectations are exceeded.
You Have:
1-2 years’ experience in pottery/ceramics.
Preferred experience in the hospitality industry.
