Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to work on the role of GPCR calcitonin receptor in human and murine myocardium; it will also explore the role of filamin A and C, and Receptor-Activity-Modifying-Proteins (RAMPs) in myocardial remodelling in atrial fibrillation (e.g., fibrosis).
Project will involve a large amount of work in primary human and murine cardiac fibroblasts and myocytes, especially cell isolation, culture, transfection, comprehensive functional studies in cardiac fibroblasts and myocytes. The candidate will be recruiting patients, consenting, collecting and processing human cardiac tissue, cell and blood samples. Part of the work will involve peptide design, generation, purification, and peptide testing in vitro and in vivo. The work will involve a combination of molecular, biochemical and cellular techniques applied to human and mouse cardiac myocytes ad fibroblasts, and human and moue blood (serum/plasma) samples. The post holder will report to Prof Svetlana Reilly, and will work closely with the group members, and local, national and international collaborators. The post is funded by the British Heart Foundation.
You will be expected to hold a BSc 2:1 or higher and / or MSc degree in a relevant discipline (i.e. Developmental, Molecular and Cell Biology or Natural Sciences) and demonstrate independence and proficiency in a number of cellular and molecular biology techniques, such as isolation, culture and complex functional cellular assay in primary human and mouse cardiac fibroblasts and myocytes, immunoblotting and immunoprecipitation, cloning and mutagenesis, PCR and qRT-PCR, as well as proven experience in recruiting and consenting patients for research.
This is a full time appointment on a fixed term contract until 14 November 2027 years funded by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and you will be based at the West Wing, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, OX3 9DU.
