Job description
Working with a team of officers dedicated to disrupting illegal waste exports, you will;

  • Act as a key point of contact between your team and the ports.
  • Maintain a permanent presence at the ports throughout the year stopping illegal waste shipments
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with local officers, the shipping industry and ports.
  • Negotiate with and influence waste operators especially when their export standards are found to be below legal requirements.
  • Review incoming data including commercially sensitive information and will be able to handle this accordingly.
  • Work closely with our Intelligence Research Officers and Technical officers, who will help you develop the intelligence picture around illegal waste exports.

You will also support the Technical Officer for the area in overseeing container and trailer returns working with the site to bring them into compliance and assisting any investigators by compiling statements and exhibits.

You will work with the leadership to identify any improvements in processes within the illegal waste exports team.
The team
The Illegal Waste Exports Team manage and develop intelligence and enforcement action related to Illegal export of waste in England. Made up of several roles and disciplines, we build and maintain strong relationships with our enforcement partners to work as one community, to drive our intelligence led approach to tackling illegal waste exports. The team provide a professional and timely service and are focussed on continuously improving how we do things.
Experience/skills required
As a Port Officer you will draw upon several key skills and personal characteristics.:

  • Handle information securely

You will ideally have a background in waste as well as knowledge of the surrounding legislation.

Note that security vetting checks (SC and NPPV3) will be required.

The Ports Officer role provides a front-line presence at the Port of Immingham, Kilingholme, and to the ports of Teeside and various other ports when required.

Acting upon intelligence you will stop and arrange inspections of containers, trailers, and vehicles at the port.
