Job description
Since 1979 our Chelsea based weekly auctions have been in every interior stylists’ and private collectors’ diary. The intoxicating mix of antique & contemporary items across 2 sale rooms ensure there is something for everyone to get excited about.
Every Sunday (including bank holidays), the auction runs from 11 am on the first floor offering Contemporary and Traditional Furniture and Decorative items, Antique Furniture, Paintings, Carpets and Works of Art. The specialist auction, which takes place most months, is a must for lovers of fine antiques, continental furniture, silver and jewellery, as well as unique carpets. We also hold regular selective auctions for Designer Handbags, Russian Art and Oriental Artefacts throughout the year.
We are looking for an outstanding porter to join our team running our upstairs antique saleroom as a team of two. Lots Road is an incredibly busy place with between 400 and 700 lots coming in and out each week and a lot of it can be large items of furniture. Working in the antique saleroom means you will likely be handling delicate items that require impeccable care and attention.
You will need to be physically fit, extremely motivated and have a good eye for making the sale room look fantastic. You should be polite and friendly with a can-do attitude as you will be assisting not just your colleagues across the business but also members of the public too.
Responsibilities include:
- Bringing items into the saleroom as they arrive - unloading and carrying upstairs, creating space within the room
- Assisting with collections - sourcing items, carrying them down and loading as required
- Ensuring all items in the saleroom are correctly labelled
- Ensuring the saleroom looks aesthetically pleasing ready for public view
- Ensuring that health and safety guidelines are adhered to and gangways are kept clear at all times
- Working on weekly re-offers
- Calling customers to follow up on collections
- Supporting the valuers and cataloguers as required
Part of the joy of working for Lots Road is the team spirit and with such a huge turnover of items each week we all help each other to get the job done. You will be spinning a lot of plates & be a key player in ensuring departments are communicating effectively & information is being relayed.
You will:
- Have impeccable verbal & written English
- A warm, approachable, unflappable attitude
- Be well presented
- Be a confident communicator
- Have a keen eye for detail
- Be dependable & consistent
- Be physically fit
- Be careful to avoid damages
