Job description
KEY OBJECTIVES
1. To supervise all activity in the Swimming Pool area during General Swim Times.
2. To be on duty to assist during other swim times as and when needed.
3. To know & enforce general swimming rules & procedures in place in the Swimming Pool area.
4. To be responsible for Pool Water Testing every 2 hours during your shift.
5. To maintain the Pool area, sauna & steam room in a clean & orderly condition.
Key Tasks
- To complete all pool tests and head counts.
- Rescue equipment should be held beside the lifeguard chair, should be easily accessible while patrolling the pool area
- Scan your area from bottom to top striving for 10 X 10 second reaction (scan area in 10 seconds and be able to respond in 10 seconds).
- To supervise pool users.
- To perform any other duties as directed by Management.
- Avoid socializing while on duty. Short interactions for member service may be ok, but only if it doesn’t interfere with 10/10 scanning.
- Always Keep swimming area clean and free of obstructions.
- To attend monthly pool lifeguard training.
- To perform action rescue protocols in the event of an emergency
- To administer first aid treatment as and when required
- Do not have or use mobile phone or computer while lifeguarding.
- To complete all cleaning schedules with records kept up to date.
- Ensuring maintenance checks are done and records kept up to date in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Stay alert to observe signals from other guards when there is more than one guard.
- Know and practice the proper emergency procedures and attend staff meetings and trainings
- Follow the facility rules and set a good example on and off duty
- Enforce all facility rules while explaining why and the danger involved, when enforcing a rule, briefly explain the reason behind the rule as well as the danger the rule infraction presents. Remember that your first responsibility remains protecting the swimmers in the pool area.
- Ensure that correct uniform is worn at all times along with name badge.
- To maintain the safety and well being of customers using the facilities.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Ensure your certifications are current
- Be professional, alert, courteous and diplomatic
- Report and record any noteworthy incidents (behaviour problems, vomit or faecal matter clean ups etc) or any near misses on an incident report form
- Report and record any accidents (involve injury and first aid) on and accident report form
- Safeguard the lives of your patrons first, but also ensure their comfort and pleasure. Don’t tolerate recklessness or rough play.
- Attend interactive instructor update sessions on a regular basis.
- Maintain the highest standards of service, presentation and professional advice offered to customers using the facilities.

Salary: £10.00-£10.50 per hour
