Job description

About CUR8

The science is clear: even if we do everything else right on reducing emissions, the world needs to remove 200 Gigatonnes of carbon from the atmosphere by 2050.

We have decades of experience working with the leading climate change actors, which we combine with deep technical and business expertise to build the carbon removals industry faster than ever before.

We partner with providers of the highest quality carbon removals, and we don’t stop there; developing carbon markets creates an unprecedented opportunity for the creation of innovation, value, equity, and jobs across the world. We believe the supply side of carbon removals is the biggest opportunity for our business and for the world.

We’re systemic thinkers. Together with our sister NGO, Rethinking Removals, we collaborate with the entire carbon removals ecosystem, across suppliers, buyers, policymakers, and narrative setters, together to develop and invest in future projects to make sure there are enough carbon removals in 1, 5, 10 and 25 years time.

About the role

  • You will build and lead a policy function for CUR8 developing this into a high-performing team as the organisation scales.
  • You will devise and implement a proactive thought leadership and engagement strategy with key carbon removals stakeholders across governments, multilateral institutions, non-profits, and the private sector to build awareness and scale of the carbon removals market.
  • You will work effectively across the business, including across sales, partnerships, marketing, and product, to translate policy perspectives into materials, events and insights that grow CUR8’s business.
  • You will stay up-to-date on developments in domestic and international developments for carbon removal and related climate change agendas.
  • You will act as policy subject matter expertise to provide a unique perspective to CUR8’s clients and partners

Requirements

About you

  • You are passionate about policy, startups, and climate change and you’re a proactive self-starter and team player
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in policy roles - experience working in an earlier-stage B2B startup helpful, but not essential
  • You have an understanding of key climate change/sustainability frameworks; experience in carbon markets/carbon procurement is valuable but not essential
  • You have exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to simplify complex or technical content in a concise and accessible way.
  • You’re happy to lead and take the initiative in an ambitious, fast-paced, and ambiguous environment
  • You thrive in both competition and collaboration; within the team, with the partners you manage, and with the wider ecosystem. You’re able to currently identify when to get ahead and when to share
  • You are a people person - you enjoy working with clients and partners, solving problems, and building long-lasting, trusted professional relationships.

Benefits

About the perks

  • With a little bit of luck, we’ll save the planet (pretty good, isn’t it)
  • But seriously. Every time we transact, the world gets a little better
  • We’ll treat you with dignity; across competitive compensation, meaningful equity, generous time off, and a culture that’s inclusive for parents and respectful of boundaries (no 3am emails!)
  • We share a lovely bright office in Shoreditch/Liverpool Street with abundant free coffee and snacks. We are office-based three days a week and let you work from anywhere two days a week
  • Worried about your personal carbon footprint? We’ll make a meaningful contribution to removing it.
  • We’re building a collaborative culture that celebrates our differences and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
  • CUR8 is an equal-opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
