About the Position
The Milken Institute is seeking an Associate, European Policy and Content, based in London. For the candidate with a high attention to detail, extraordinary work ethic and demonstrated judgement, this is an opportunity to become a key player in an entrepreneurial, growing, and dynamic global organisation involved in some of the most important global issues.
The individual will work with colleagues across the major pillars of the Milken Institute’s work: Finance, Health, Strategic Philanthropy, and our International offices, as well as closely with colleagues in the London office. Under the supervision of the Associate Director, Policy and Content, the Associate will firstly provide intellectual and practical organisational support for policy development projects across the Milken Institute’s areas of focus; and secondly will contribute ideas and assist in executing broader policy-related programming throughout the year by building relationships with key policy-related stakeholders, both within and without the Milken Institute, particularly in preparation for and during major conferences.
The right candidate will add value to an extraordinary portfolio of existing relationships with global financial institutions, corporate, investment, public policy, and foundation leaders and members of the philanthropic community by developing a strong network of thinkers, subject-matter experts, and policy practitioners to help enhance the quality and expand the reach of our work in Europe.
Broad intellectual and policy-related interests, attention to detail, diligence, time management, ability to work across time zones and proactivity are keys to success in this position. Opportunity for hybrid work environment.
Candidates should possess the following characteristics:
Policy work
- Ability to work alongside the Associate Director to uncover problems to be solved through policy solutions, the imagination and willingness to work together to help frame the right questions to ask, and a structured thinker to help breakdown complicated issues and develop project plans to address them
- The flexibility to adopt a variety of different problem-solving methods to best answer any particular issue, whether qualitative/quantitative, survey research or developing frameworks and structured interviews
- An enthusiasm to expand both their personal and the Institute’s network in UK and European policy networks
- Responsibility for building and maintaining policy-specific networks in Salesforce for various policy topics of interest to the Institute
- Creating a list of foundations, public- and private-sector sponsors for project work relating to various issues areas and maintaining these stakeholder lists in Salesforce
- Attending policy-specific events and being able to write memos on problems, ideas, speakers and other important outputs
- Identify potential media and other outputs for our policy work and maintain and update this list
- Assist in executing policy-related convenings and workshops so that invited policy experts find sessions both enjoyable and productive
- Willingness to co-write Op-Eds and shorter opinion articles, as well as positively contribute to the bigger White papers and other policy outputs
Policy-related programming
- A knowledge of and ability to identify interesting thinkers and speakers across issue areas, gained through reading widely, to help enrich our programming and contribute to policy thinking
- A willingness and ability to identify topics before they become mainstream, allowing us to convene experts and help set the agenda on emerging issues of importance
- Diplomatic skills in suggesting speakers for panels owned by others, as well as communicating with others within the Institute to quickly approve high-quality suggestions to maximise the impact of our own sessions
General skills
- Ability to manage complex projects and tasks in a fast-paced environment, requiring an ability to effectively prioritise and respond promptly to internal and external communications
- Eagerness to dive into new tasks and tackle them enthusiastically
- Innovative problem-solver who can generate workable solution ideas, test basic versions of solutions, rapidly incorporate feedback, and resolve issues in a timely fashion

- Intellectually curious with a solid understanding of, or eagerness to learn, about the Milken Institute’s stakeholders in the financial services industry, healthcare and philanthropy
- Entrepreneurial spirit and mentality essential given satellite office location
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Bachelor's Degree required, Masters degree in policy-relevant field preferred
- Technically savvy with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); Salesforce is a plus

Working Conditions & Travel Requirements
This position will work in a professional office environment 2-3 days/ week or in other locations to best suit team needs. This person will also be required to travel occasionally to other offices and/or venues to assist with events as needed, requiring occasional work outside of traditional hours. International along with domestic travel is possible.
