Job Duties
The Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Policy seeks a qualified candidate to assist in the development of the agency’s policy initiatives across all media: Air, Land, and Water. This position coordinates policy efforts and legislative processes, and conducts policy, legislative, and regulatory research and analysis for use by agency management in evaluating program and policy options. It also supports the Policy Division’s efforts by planning and coordinating related meetings and events, and tracking legislation and legislative committee meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of state and federal environmental laws, particularly related to Virginia's environmental programs for Air, Land, and Water
- Ability to perform environmental policy analysis in collaboration with senior executive branch leadership
- Ability to work effectively within Virginia's state legislative and regulatory processes and knowledge of the executive branch role in those processes
- Ability to learn and organize complex information quickly
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including grammar, editing, and proof-reading skills
- Ability to work effectively with elected officials, senior corporate officials, high-level public officials, advocacy organizations, legal counsel, and the public
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in environmental policy analysis in collaboration with senior executive branch leadership
- Experience with Virginia's state legislative and regulatory processes, particularly the executive branch's role in those processes
