An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced and qualified surveillance motorcyclist to join SEROCU’s investigation teams. You will work across the South East region and beyond, gathering intelligence and evidence against the highest-harm organised crime groups.

We are seeking officers from a wide variety of experience and backgrounds. There is no requirement to having previously worked in the organised crime arena - but commitment, flexibility and proactivity is a must. For the successful candidates we can provide you the right skills and fantastic development opportunities.

This role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result you will be required to travel for business purposes. This may include travel across the UK and is not limited to the south east. You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand and occasionally this may require working away from home.

Due to the nature of our work, security is of paramount importance to us and therefore it will be necessary to pass and maintain vetting level SC. In order to achieve this, you must have resided in the UK for the past five years. Exemptions apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government), and studying abroad.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake covert, mobile, technical and foot surveillance in order to obtain intelligence and evidence to assist an investigation or operation.
  • Conduct covert surveillance as authorised under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, and Human Rights legislation in order to ensure legal, proportionate and necessary actions are undertaken.
  • Demonstrate awareness in the application of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA) & Investigatory Powers Act 2016 (IPA).
  • Provide specialist surveillance support to investigations, including being ‘on-call’ for regional surveillance capability.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in the application of the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996 (CPIA).
  • Support the wider team in undertaking other duties as directed.
  • To build and maintain relationships with partners both internal and external.

Required knowledge/skills
Essential

  • Current Advanced Police Motor Cyclist and accredited Q2 Surveillance Motorcyclist.
  • Experience of using Photographic/Technical Equipment and report writing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Conversant with the legal and practical application of RIPA and CPIA.
  • Willingness to work in a flexible and committed way, sometimes requiring evening and weekend working when operationally required.
  • Holder of Q1 National Surveillance Training Accreditation or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Nationally accredited SMART or CROP operative.
  • Background in covert investigations and practical experience undertaking covert and overt investigations.
