Job description

Connect to your Industry

This role will see you take the lead for The Green Room podcast – from content strategy to episode production schedule.

You won’t have to start from scratch. You’ll be building on the show’s success and strong reputation both within our business globally and the wider industry. We’ve produced around 50 episodes gathering 100k downloads, with a high-profile portfolio of guests. It already starts conversations with top clients. Is consistently named by new joiners in interviews. And proudly shared by our people with their networks.

But we’ll look to you to imagine a bigger future for the show. How do we become the go-to podcast covering the topics that shape businesses big and small? What are the conversations we need to have next? The next dream guests to bring on? The advertising tricks we’re missing? And ideas to engage our audience in new ways? The proverbial sky is the limit.

You won’t need to do it alone either. You’ll be the ultimate lead, but you’ll have a friendly creative content, brand and marketing team around you to support with ideas and connections. And you can trust the experts on the logistics – we have an in-house film studio who record and edit the podcast for us.

The role will be pretty varied. Each day will be different (as clichéd as that sounds), and you’ll be working with stakeholders at many different levels from across the business, as well as external agencies and freelance creatives.

You’ll also be responsible for upholding the creative content principles, both through the podcast and by advising teams across Clients & Industries (C&I – our marketing and communications professionals) on how to best promote the show, work together on episodes or share best practice.

And while your focus will be The Green Room, there will also be an opportunity to work on related projects to further promote the podcast and build our brand – think blog posts, newsletters and social media. And you’ll join our team’s efforts to constantly be on the lookout for brilliant examples of creative content outside the firm to keep us inspired.

Connect to your career at Deloitte

Deloitte drives progress. Using our vast range of expertise, that covers audit, risk advisory, and consulting services across tax, legal, business, technology and corporate finance, we help our clients become leaders wherever they choose to compete. To do this, we invest in outstanding people. We build teams of future thinkers, with diverse talents and backgrounds, and empower them all to reach for and achieve more.

What brings us all together at Deloitte? It’s how we approach the thousands of decisions we make every day. How we behave, our beliefs and our attitudes. In other words: our values. Whatever we do, wherever we are in the world, we lead the way, serve with integrity, take care of each other, foster inclusion, and collaborate for measurable impact. These five shared values lead every decision we make and action we take, guiding us to deliver impact how and where it matters most.

Connect to your opportunity

Do you love podcasts? Starting conversations on big topics? Doing work that matters?

Then keep reading. You might just be who we’re looking for.

Podcasting has blown up in recent years – and for good reason. Because gone are the years where companies can simply broadcast about their products and services and expect an audience to engage.

People are making decisions about where they work or who they buy from differently. Even in b2b. And so with attention spans at a premium, it’s never been more important for businesses to tell their story in a relevant way.

Since launching The Green Room podcast three years ago, we’ve been doing just that. Combining thought-provoking questions and high-calibre guests, we’ve explored the topics that matter most to business: from new technologies and sustainability to inclusion and the future of work.

We’ve been joined by Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, sport stars Laura Kenny and Judy Murray, CBI director-general Tony Danker, and Our Planet exec producer Colin Butfield – as well as organisations like Meta, Headspace and The Earthshot Prize.

We’ve come a long way. Learnt a lot. Made mistakes. Earnt a loyal audience. And won industry awards. All while producing the whole show in-house driven by our pod squad.

We’ve realised we’ve built something special. But we can also see a big opportunity to grow even further.

That’s where you come in. We’re now looking for the creative content team’s newest member to take on the lead for The Green Room podcast.

Someone with big ideas. A creative thinker. Someone who can frame business topics in an interesting, human way. Someone with vision who isn’t afraid to take ownership and initiative. Someone who can make connections and spot a good story.

Our next challenge is making sure that the things that we believe and stand for as a business comes through clearly in our content – so it attracts the clients and talent that feel the same. Do this well and we’ll not only attract them, they’ll even want to tell our story for us.

The podcast has been doing that successfully for the past few years. But where do we go next?

Connect to your skills and professional experience

This role requires a blend of vision, ownership, ideas and creativity.

We’re not looking for specific industry or sector experience. But you do need to have experience working with different organisations and leading on a podcast (or at least working various aspects of one), whether that’s for a brand or perhaps your own show.

Aside from a strong understanding of the podcast landscape, you’ll need to demonstrate the following requirements:

  • From coming up ideas that cut through and strong angles to production management and promotion plans, you’ll need to develop a big-picture view for the podcast that’s creative, distinctive in the market and helps bring to life the firm’s overall content strategy.
  • You’ll need to demonstrate your passion and willingness to take the lead on big projects bringing to life your vision. And you’ll need to be fully accountable for its execution. That means planning for success, maintaining momentum working with other teams, and rolling up your sleeves where necessary.
  • Your job is to make The Green Room the go-to show for a business audience, befitting of a leading global organisation making a difference on the things that matter. That means that you won’t lose sight of what makes the pod special while also working to compete with the best pods in the world. And having very high standards – while not taking ourselves too seriously.
  • You’ll see the pod as playing a key part in telling our firm’s story, bringing to life the topics that matter most to business in creative ways. You’ll need to have experience in taking complex and corporate and turning it into simple and human. You’ll translate engaging ideas into persuasive copy. And you’ll own the editorial style of the pod.
  • You’ll need to demonstrate that you can develop a long-term, multi-channel marketing strategy to support flagship content. And execute that strategy in a variety of ways, including newsletters, blog posts, social media, advertising and social advocacy. This is one of the biggest opportunities for growth for The Green Room.
  • Empathy and world view – you’ll need to have a good grasp of some of the most pressing issues in the world, and constantly be looking for interesting leads and stories. What matters in business? What’s in the news? What are people worried about or inspired by? We need to stop interrupting what people are interested in and be what people are interested in, so the ability to relate what we’re doing to the real world is essential.
  • Player – working collaboratively with people, rather than in competition against them is key. You’ll be part of our creative content team and sit within the wider Corporate Affairs department. You’ll work with many different teams on the planning, production and promotion of the show, from marketing and PR leads to sound engineers and our social media team.
  • You’ll be the key contact person for the show within the business and externally. You’ll need present your ideas to the wider business and in industry events. You’ll make sure anyone who is part of the podcast feels welcome and has a great experience, be that our own pod squad or high-profile guests. And you’ll believe in the future of the show like no one else and bring people on that journey with you.
