Main ResponsibilitiesAudio Lab is an ‘accelerator’ programme with one big ambition – to amplify next-generation podcasters and supporting career development.
You will receive a full-time salary for 8 months from May to Dec 2023 at Assistant Producer level, plus a package of practical and professional training that includes; mentoring, support and a production budget.
Your main responsibilities will be to plan and develop a unique idea as part of an established production team, securing its commission on BBC Sounds.
You will play a key role at each stage of development and production, with close supervision from experienced Producers, Editors and the Audio Lab team.
You will be a creative self-starter with initiative and drive to steer your podcast through to completion, whilst delivering it to time, budget, technical and editorial standards.
Are you the right candidate?You will have a range of audio and content making skills such as; writing, interviewing, recording, editing or presenting and be highly motivated to grow your skills. Additionally, you will have good knowledge of how social media can help you reach an audience and grow a following. For example, you might be self-publishing audio or video content on well-known social media channels; producing/presenting on community radio or have previously had junior audio or production roles amongst other content making experience.
You will be at a stage in your career where you will benefit from training and support provided by Audio Lab.
You will also be able to demonstrate creative thinking and have the ability to develop ideas that appeal to and reflect diverse audiences. You will have strong planning and organisational skills and be able to use your judgment to seek guidance where appropriate. You will have the ability to problem solve and suggest effective solutions to achieve your planned goals.

We are interested in untold stories and fresh perspectives, or an entertaining take on a subject that explores things differently to other podcasts and is going to be talked about the next day. Do you have experience of a trend, an event, a community or a culture that will make for a great podcast?
We want to amplify stories and conversations through your personal, diverse, and inter-sectional ‘lens’
We’d like to hear your podcast ideas reflecting ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, social class, disability, neurodiversity, religion or where you live. You may also be driven to highlight the experience of those who don’t yet have a voice.
Additional information
You will need to submit a video clip that describes yourself and one piece of audio that reflects the idea you want Audio Lab to help you make.
You will also need to submit an up-to-date CV outlining your full skills and experience.
Shortlisting of applications will take place in February and the interviews are planned to take place between 6th-24th March 2023.

Package Description
Band: C
Contract type: Fixed Term - Full time
Location: The roles will be based in 4 of the following possible locations: Glasgow, Belfast, Cardiff, Salford, Birmingham and London. Three of the roles will be in BBC production offices and one will be based with an independent production company.
Salary - The salary for these roles is £26,446.
