QPS is a young and ambitious company that is looking to expand by recruiting an apprentice or recently qualified plumber. Joe Charman is the owner and has been in the industry for 8 years. Having completed an apprenticeship at Eastleigh College whilst working at Design Heat (Winchester based company) he has since gone on to set up QPS. Over the past 2 years, Joe has built a growing reputation within the Winchester area in large house refurbishment projects and we fully expect this reputation to grow as the business grows.
The Role
As a Plumbing Apprentice you will work alongside an experienced tradesperson to gain experience and expertise in the design, installation and maintenance of domestic hot and cold water systems. You will learn how to design solutions that are appropriate to the scale of the property as well as undertaking the first and second fix. This will typically include a full central heating system, under-floor heating, kitchens, bathrooms and gas boilers. Day release to college to gain your qualifications is an important part of the job, you will be expected to gain formal plumbing qualification including Gas Safe. Every day will offer new challenges. Job Description
Full time, 40 hour a week apprenticeship with a view to becoming a permanent member of the team working independently. Initially the role will involve learning basic plumbing techniques, observing, getting involved and carrying out tasks. Moving forward to being responsible for own tasks. Day release to college to gain the necessary qualifications will also help in the understanding of the complexities of being a plumber and heating engineer. Each day will offer new challenges. Hard work, determination, dedication and loyalty are key characteristic that we are looking for in new team members.
Entry Requirements
- Maths & English at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent
- Level 2 Plumbing qualification would be beneficial, but is not essential
- A full UK driving license is desirable but not essential
- It would be beneficial if the candidate lived in or around the SO31 area

Working Week
Forty hour, five day week applies, Monday to Friday to include one day at college. Hours may vary each week depending on priorities and deadlines. If the candidate can drive then they have the option to do an 8-hour day. If they can’t drive and need taking to site by Joe, they will need to work the hours Joe works which is normally around 10 hours per day.
Future Prospects
If QPS are happy with the progress and the successful, and the candidate is also happy, once the apprenticeship is complete, they will be offered a full-time role within QPS as a plumbing and heating engineer. Pay will increase and there will be additional benefits such as a company van, fuel card etc.
