Safari Ward is the Children’s emergency assessment unit at Lincoln County Hospital. Children attend the ward from a variety of external sources including the emergency department, clinics and other community services. The ward is currently open 5 days a week caring for children with a wide range of conditions.
We recognise the importance of play in hospital, and that is why we are increasing our play team. Play is essential for improving the wellbeing of childrenand reduces anxiety, fear and stress associated with being in hospital.
The play team have a pivotal role providing care and support for patients from birth to 18 years and their parent/carers throughout their stay. A role focused on advocating for the patients and making their stay a less stressful and more enjoyable experience.
As a play leader/specialist you will provide play and recreation during a child's stay.
You will be innovative and be able to work with a patient appropriately to support their needs, educationally, emotionally, and mentally. The role will include:
- Preparation, distraction, pre and post procedural play providing age and developmentally appropriate methods of play
- Being an advocate a safe approach to invasive and non-invasive procedures
- Working closely with the rest of the play team and extended multi-disciplinary team
You will need to be a registered Nursery Nurse or equivalent and have experience in working with children and young people (ages 0-18 years), as well as individual, groups and multi-agency work. You will need an understanding of the differing needs of patients with additional and special needs. Play provision, preparation for procedures and distraction are key responsibilities for this post.
