Thales is a technology company that is part of the of the global Thales organisation. Thales worldwide has 88000 employees in 50 countries.
Thales teams deliver cutting-edge solutions to armed forces all over the world. We are Europe’s number one supplier of state-of-the-art defence electronics and systems. Our people don’t just work with incredibly advanced technology, our people make the world safer.
Our systems are developed for a wide range of significant defence projects; including the UK Royal Navy submarines, Type 23 frigates, Merlin helicopters and the Sandown/Hunt class mine countermeasures vessels.
Are you looking for a different kind of infrastructure challenge? At Thales we provide platforms operating on isolated systems operating in the harshest environments for extended periods. Our next generation platforms will form the basis for our customers for the upcoming projects using a modern stack based on platform and infrastructure as code. We are looking for engineers with a forward thinking mind-set to help us define and develop our platforms, reusing what makes sense but refactoring and coding from scratch what doesn’t.

The Role
As a Platform Software Engineer within Thales, you will take a lead role involving the design, implementation and test of infrastructure and middleware software using industry standard tools and methods.
Develop our systems by working as a key member of a project team to deliver a high quality, robust software deliverable that meets customer requirements, on time and within budget
Support our systems by working with customer support functions to ensure that currently deployed software products are maintained on both land and at sea
You should have the ability to work well within a team and to obtain co-operation and lead change. You will be self-motivated, with the ability to see innovative solutions to problems and the enthusiasm to drive them to a successful conclusion.
You will have the opportunity to travel to Thales and non-Thales sites throughout the UK when working on Thales projects. Therefore a willingness to undertake some business travel is essential.
Your Skills and Experience
A pragmatic, “can do” attitude and good engineering practices are at the core of what we want to drive, so don’t worry if you don’t have all the skills listed below, we are looking for the right people and we will help you develop alongside the rest of the team in areas you don’t have right now
