About The Role


The Data Platform Engineer will contribute to our growth by building and maintaining crucial data capabilities. Your primary focus will include the development and management of our Data Warehouse, integration of new data sources, database management, data security, schema management, event sourcing, and implementation of emerging data technologies. Additionally, you’ll be responsible for orchestrating the data management process and enabling product teams to implement best-in-class data practices.


Job Responsibilities


  • Development and Management of our Data Warehouse: You'll be responsible for creating, organizing, and maintaining our Data Warehouse. This includes ensuring its performance, security, and reliability, as well as troubleshooting any issues that may arise.
  • Integration of New Data Sources: Part of your role will involve identifying and integrating new data sources into our system. You'll work with various teams to understand their data needs and implement suitable data ingestion and processing mechanisms.
  • Database, Schema, and Data Security Management: You will manage our databases, oversee schema management, and ensure the security of our data. This includes setting up appropriate access controls, monitoring activity, and implementing data protection measures. Additionally, you'll be tasked with establishing and maintaining event sourcing mechanisms.


Your Technical Skills


Essential:

  • Proficiency in relational databases and query authoring using SQL, with a strong familiarity with a wide range of database technologies (e.g., Big Query, Spark, Presto, Postgres, DynamoDB)Time management and strong prioritization and organizational skills
  • Significant experience with data engineering methodologies, including data lakes, data warehouses, and data mesh
  • Knowledge of messaging, event, or streaming technology such as Apache Kafka and related tools (Schema registry, Kafka Connect, Kafka Streams)
  • Proven experience in executing the full software development lifecycle, along with establishing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions)
  • Robust experience in at least one programming language, such as Python, Clojure, Scala, or Java

Desirable:

  • Practical experience and understanding of cloud technologies, such as AWS
  • Familiarity with data engineering principles and practices related to machine learning development
  • Experience with data visualisation and reporting tools, such as Power BI, QuickSight, or Tableau
  • Experience managing infrastructure using Terraform or similar tools


Your Background

  • Ideally, you hold a degree (BSc, MSc, PhD) in Computer Science or a related engineering discipline, or you possess equivalent practical experience
  • You have proven commercial software development experience
  • Your communication skills are excellent, both written and verbal
  • You're a team player, self-motivated, dedicated, and always eager to learn
