Due to the sensitive nature of this role you will be required to undergo DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels/national-security-vetting-clearance-levels). An allowance of £5k per annum may be payable monthly while you hold this DV and continue to work in a role that requires that level of security clearance. The terms of this allowance will be made available if you are successful in being recruited into this role.

Why this job matters:

In your role as a Platform Engineer, you’ll bring your technical expertise to bear on interesting and challenging problems within Cyber Security. You will solve real-word problems for customers and deliver solutions in an agile manner and ensure we build exactly what they need to time/cost/quality. You will have the opportunity to learn about a wide range of technologies, hardware, and DevOps practices. The solutions you create will utilise the latest technologies, demonstrate innovation and thought-leadership, and provide brilliant outcomes for customers. You will also collaberate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, providing reactive responses to issues and alerts as they occur and develop new proactive monitoring to improve health issue dectection.

As part of this role you will be required to join our 24x7 rota, working on a 1 in 4 week basis, with possible/infrequent travel required at times. This will always be for a short duration.

What you'll do:

  • Responding to issues that are raised either by automated dashboards, by our users, or through proactive monitoring routines that you will develop.
  • Looking at existing dashboards and creating new ones to monitor systems.
  • Collating issues and writing reports based on these for wider audiences.
  • Updating support documentation and providing training to our 1st line teams.
  • Owning hardware installation at our various data centres.
  • Performing regular operating system and application patching.

What you'll bring:

  • Experience in software and systems delivery methodologies, processes and tools.
  • Knowledge of Linux based operating systems (typically RHEL7/8 based).
  • Practical experience of diagnosing and fixing issues in a production system (both hardware and software).
