Role overview:
At Lear Corporation we are currently looking for a Plastics Tooling Engineer working within the seating development team who will ensure that the plastic injection molded parts are designed with best practices incorporated. To advise Engineers on tooling feasibility and process and material selection. To work with toolmakers and injection molders to ensure prototype and production tools and processes are feasible and meeting timing and cost targets.
This job will be based in Coventry, UK
Scoope of the position :
- To participate in various projects, supporting various teams who own and deliver the engineering of best-in-class premium automotive seating for the products we develop for our customers.
- The role will be across programmes to give consultative advice on plastic injection component design for tooling feasibility.
- To work with the Purchasing and STA teams to identify and develop injection mold suppliers and toolmakers and to support with tool trials and process development
- To work effectively within a design team, contributing to the teams collective output, and to apply your knowledge and experience to the engineering of a product, with respect to design to meet function, manufacturing feasibility, safety, durability and appearance standards.
Main Responsibilities:
- To keep abreast of latest injection mold technology and rapid prototyping methods to maintain competitive advantage and to enable cost reductions and new process introduction
- Work with the Engineering Manager to design and develop seating projects meeting customer expectations
- Work within the various engineering functions to deliver the design, meeting manufacturing feasibility requirements to program timeline
- Work with injection molders to implement new components by supporting tool trials and process development
- Participate in the global subject matter expert team to develop and implement best practice and standardize designs with proven attachment features
- Work with the cost reduction team to deliver our TVM cost down targets
- To participate in design reviews as required
Key skills and Qualifications:
- HNC / HND or equivalent
- Apprenticeship in toolmaking
- Good PC skills – Excel/Word and Powerpoint.
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Toolmaking background in injection molding
- Having a toolmaking background will be a significant strength / requirement
- Able to think of innovative solutions to design challenges
- Strong analytical approach
