If you've paid a visit to Tong, you'll know we have a plant canopy as well as an outdoor plant area, so you must be willing to work both in and outside in all weathers.
Ultimately you will be required to provide a great experience for our customers by ensuring our displays are excellent and are well stocked.
Ideally, we would like people who have plant knowledge, or who have a passion to learn about plants, with lots of enthusiasm and positivity. As a plants assistant you will be asked to get stuck in and help with landscaping, gardening, event set up, and general upkeep of the outdoor plant area.
As the sales of plants are seasonal, you will be required to support instore at times, so you must be comfortable with this.
We have a full-time position available working on average 40 hours including alternate weekends.

As a Plant's Assistant you will be responsible for:
- Greeting and welcoming all customers from the moment they enter the shop.
- Offering customers advice and answering any queries they may have, from stock availability and details of special offers to a product’s price.
- Understanding our products and product range so you can give as much information and advice to customers.
- Helping to keep the shop floor and displays clean and tidy.
- Restocking goods when they’re selling out, and ensuring they’re attractively displayed with clear labels, clear signs and placed front and forward in a shoppable position.
- Assisting with the processing of deliveries from suppliers, from its delivery to the warehouse to transferring to the shop floor; packaging removal, labelling, scanning to building safe displays on the shop floor.
- Creating inspiring and well maintained merchandising displays
- Supporting all departments in the Garden Centre and help out when and where required.
- Welcome customer complaints, listen well, apologise and escalate to a Supervisor staff member.
- Considering health and safety at all times; are displays safe, manual handling is done in accordance with the training, wear PPE and use handling tools.
- Asking customers what they are looking for, why and what their projects are so that you can offer advice on additional and alternative products.
- Accurately carrying out stock counts in accordance with the set process to limit mistakes
