We are looking for an inspiring and ambitious Planning and Operations Manager to join our Volunteering team.
Thanks to our dedicated supporters and volunteers, we’ve been at the heart of progress that has seen cancer survival in the UK double over the past 40 years. Thousands of others volunteer their time and skills or fundraise to help us beat cancer. We’re hugely proud of our volunteers, and we’re delighted to be Investing in Volunteers accredited, the UK quality standard for good practice in volunteer management.
Within the Planning and Operations Manager role, you’ll use your experience of project management, planning and operations to create and own key processes to support the vital work of our volunteering team. What will I be doing?
  • Provide leadership, support and direction to the volunteering team to set a clear vision, clear the path and inspire.
  • Provide a single view of the Volunteering Strategy and the Volunteering op’s plan delivery and progress, embed this across the Volunteering team so team members at all levels understand where we are against the plans.
  • Work in collaboration with the MFE planning functions and other CRUK functions to run the annual planning cycle process for the Volunteering team. Take the centralised process and adapt this for the Volunteering Team to ensure it is fit for purpose.
  • Lead on key internal operational relationships, primarily at senior level, which are critical to the success of the volunteering strategy. (Supporter Services, Insight and Performance Team, HR, Compliance, etc).
  • Project Manage operational requirements.
  • Create, own and drive key processes to support the work of the volunteering team across priority areas (E.G Surveys).
What skills are you looking for?
  • Experience of delivering successful strategies and operating plans
  • Excellent knowledge of project management and planning tools coupled with the ability to maintain an overall plan across a complex array of projects and services in a fast changing environment.
  • Business process development, implementation and improvement.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and management skills, with the ability to quickly get buy in and work collaboratively.
  • Strategic thinker, making future focussed, insight led decisions and articulating these clearly.
  • Capable of implementing and managing change in a dynamic and diverse organisation
  • A flexible approach, to comfortably manage ambiguity and changing environments.

Each and every one of our employees contributes to our progress and is supporting our work to beat cancer. We think that’s impressive.
In return, we make sure you are supported by a generous benefits package, a wide range of career and personal development opportunities and high-quality tools, policies and processes to enable you to do your job well.
Our benefits package includes a substantial retirement plan, a generous and flexible leave allowance, discounts on anything from travel to technology, gym membership, and much more.
We don’t forget people have lives outside of work too and so we actively encourage a flexible working culture.
Our work – from funding cutting-edge research to developing public policy – will change the world. It’s exciting to be part of our team.
