ROLE PROFILE: PLANNER
Division Information:
The Local Authorities Team is responsible for delivering highways projects for both Local Authorities and Private Clients. The team is currently going through a period of expansion and is anticipated to grow further, largely owing to the successful delivery of both one-off projects and frameworks for several clients. This business Unit now includes operations for Highways England and numerous Local Authorities.
The projects consist of a range of developments, including new build duel carriageways, bridges, junction and roundabout improvements, road widenings and more.
Project values range from £5m-£80m
Purpose of the role:
As a Planner, you will work as part of the construction and preconstruction team to prepare considered and competitive programmes associated with bid submissions and live projects.
Key Accountabilities:
You will:
- Have an appreciation of Project Management and construction processes.
- Understand the Construction Programme.
- Have an understanding of the Pre-Construction Programme.
- Develop pre-construction programmes linked to the construction programme and taking into account design and procurement.
- Produce Logistics and Sequencing diagrams/plans.
- Produce Programme Commentary and Outline Method Statements.
- Understand and be able to produce Preliminaries Assessment.
- Provide ongoing Project Support.
- Challenge solutions to determine optimum programme durations.
- Present programme information to directors at bid settlement.
- Implement the Quality, Safety and Environmental Policies and Targets.
- Comply, as appropriate, with the processes contained within the GT BMS.
- Ensure 4Projects is used as document management system.

Person Specification – to effectively undertake this role you will need the following:
Competency Requirements
Technical / Professional Qualifications Required
- A working knowledge of construction planning through job experience or training.
- Good contractual awareness and commercially astute.
- The ability to build construction programmes from first principles.
- Resource and logistics knowledge and how it affects the programme.
- Understanding of temporary works.
- Aware of individual Health and Safety responsibilities and adheres to company health and safety policy and procedures.
- Able to demonstrate alignment and work in line with the Galliford Try values - Excellence, Passion, Integrity and Collaboration.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Good attention to detail.
- A highly organised approach to work.
- Good verbal and written communication.
- Friendly and approachable character.
- Able to work as part of a project team.
- Likely to have previous relevant business experience or transferable skills gained in other areas
- Fully conversant with the Microsoft suite of packages.
- Equivalent of Level 3 NVQ or Certificate Level qualification, Degree preferable.
- Familiar with computer-based planning software (Mandatory P6 and knowledge of Asta Powerproject and MS Project).
- Experience of construction planning including the pre commencement stage of projects.
- Ideally experience of linear and civil projects
- Ideally knowledge of different forms of construction methodologies.
- Ideally construction experience working with a main Contractor.
