JOB DESCRIPTION
SLTP Strategic Programme Planner
(STLP – Strategic Long Term Plan)
We are currently looking for an experienced Programme Planner working within the Bristol area, with experience developing the concepts and vision for a company’s large and diverse programme/ portfolio level strategic planning. From the detailed technical P6 implementation through to the organisational governance and planning control.
The aim is to provide programme and portfolio level awareness to the organisation. The solution for this will include the nearer term project portfolio as well as integrating this with the more strategic long term high level programme. The near term solution will need to define implement a practicable and realistic way of managing key programme dependencies and integration aspects of P6 project plans, in order to allow programme/portfolio awareness/control. However, the wider solution this role need to develop is likely to need visualisation approaches and techniques outside of P6. For example using Power BI. The team has embedded software and data analytic staff that will support this and the role will be part of a team approach – but they will be the senior experts in planning and planning integration.
MY PROFILE
Although it is not the scope of the role in this instance, the incumbent needs to have a solid P6 planning background that shows the ability to work with a project or programme organisation to plan. Someone that focuses on understanding the activities they are planning, makes effort to validate planning data from stakeholders in the project, and constructively challenge the logic of the plans to improve its veracity. Not just someone that sits mostly in isolation and is happy just doing the technical construction of plans without thought on the content (this is largely what you get on the market). Also, experience in Microsoft project would be very beneficial. Some of our long term plans are managed in MSP due to their integration with software models.
- Someone who has the gravitas to operate with and present to all levels of the organisation including executive.
- Must be a self-starter than can turn aims and objectives into real and implementable solutions.
- Someone that has the bedside manner, diplomacy, effective communication skill (oral and written) and influencing and negotiating skills to work across a broad and diverse set of stakeholder to develop technical and process/governance solutions for programme/portfolio level planning. Someone with natural charisma and confident and able to form productive relationships with diverse individuals.
- It is key to note, the role will not be responsible for planning frameworks and approaches at the project level. Purely influencing project frameworks where needed to set minimal useful standards to allow the business at programme and portfolio level to discharge decision making and create awareness.
- Success in this role will be delivery of a clear and well-articulated portfolio integrated plan(s) layered through the programme and portfolio level. It will include methods of showing dependencies, programme risks and alignment/misalignment of dependencies, delivery performance, and drivers and timing for executive decision making.
SC required. Sole UK national.
Will need to work in office regularly to access IT systems.
Based in Bristol – 3-5 days per week onsite every week
Constraints of role:
This role will only be achieved by face to face team working in north Bristol with line manager and immediate team. So working from home is probably 1/2 days a week only. Sometime business demand will be full week. Some aspects will be on a network which can only be accessed at the Bristol site. Building relationships initially will only work with visits to planning stakeholders at our client bases in Scotland and Plymouth.
We are committed to equal treatment of candidates and promote, as well as foster all forms of diversity within our company. We believe that bringing together people with different backgrounds and perspectives is essential for creating innovative and impactful solutions. Skills, talent, and our people’s ability to dare are the only things that matter !. Bring your unique contributions and help us shape the future.
