ExxonMobil has operated in the U.K. for more than 135 years. We are best known today for the marketing of our Esso fuels and Mobil 1 lubricants and for our petrochemicals. We have refining and chemical operations in the UK, we operate the UK’s biggest private pipeline network and we retain a non-operated share in a number of fields in the North Sea. What role you will play in our team
A Pipeline Controller is responsible for transferring different fuels from our refinery, via our pipeline network to different distribution terminals and airports. You will be in a small shift team but part of a larger geographical team spanning mostly across the south of England. This role is primarily control room based where controllers are required to perform their roles without direct on site supervision during certain periods.
The role is based at our West London terminal
What you will do
To ensure safe and effective operation of pipeline facilities at all times- To meet Company and location standards of performance, control and customer service
- To comply with all Company and location Standards of Product Quality
- To work with all others on site so as to generate the best individual and team performance
- To provide an effective interface between the pipeline operation and all external bodies and departments with which it works
- Manage Interface volumes at all relevant locations
- To ensure that all pipeline transfer activities are conducted in accordance with EPCo Fuels, Product Quality Management Systems
- Operation of the pipeline network to meet the pipeline schedule, including liaison with Supply Operations at Fawley Refinery, terminals and cross-country pipeline repairs to ensure product is delivered on time, within product specification, and into the correct tank at the terminal
- Liaise with the cross-country repairs teams with respect to maintaining safe pipeline pressures during excavation work and repair activity
- Provide remote authorisation for applicable cross-country pipelines work permits
- Provide appropriate emergency response support in line with pipelines emergency response plan
- Report appropriate pipelines loss and or near loss incidents
- Fully engage in the pipeline operations LPS programme
People Management (Leadership & Supervision)
To conduct daily pipeline operations in a safe, cost effective and environmentally sound manner according to established procedures and controls- Work in close coordination with the West London Terminal Operations Controller to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Control Room, with respect to pipeline operations
- To maintain awareness of permits issued to Pipeline Maintenance and cross country teams or contractors working within the confines of pipeline facilities, easements or on the pipeline at 3rd party cross country locations
- To work with other Esso Departments, Esso Divisions, colleagues and other companies to promote the best interests of Esso and the pipeline operation
- To interface effectively with other companies, outside agencies, Government departments and authorities in their initial contact with Esso
Facility Operations Management (Operational Efficiency)
To receive and pass on reports of the current status of the operation to colleagues and others as necessary, to facilitate the continuing operation of the location through changes of shift and operating personnel- Operation of all equipment in the most effective way (Pipeline SCADA, Sciclops, ACS, Leak Detection Systems, Auto page, etc.)
- Ensure compliance with the Pipeline Operating Procedures Manual
- Participate fully in all initiatives and developments aimed at improving Midstream pipeline operations
- Contribute to the effectiveness of team meetings, safety meetings and other activities to assist in the continuing improvement of the pipeline operation
SSHE
Ensure that the pipeline network operates within safe operating limits and parameters- Respond appropriately to alarms and warnings and identify and address hazards / potential hazards
- Be the primary point of contact in the initial stages of terminal and/or pipeline emergency situations (real or simulated) and take actions detailed within Emergency Response Procedures Manual
- Support and promote the effective implementation of the Company’s Loss Prevention System
- Ensure Critical Equipment is managed as per company procedures
- Ensure an effective handover takes place when starting or finishing a shift
Product Management: Quality, Measurement, Controls
Day to day control of product movements within the UK pipeline network- Ensure Controls compliance in all areas of responsibility and to communicate any controls concerns to the UK Pipelines Control room supervisor
- Measurements are correctly booked, and any differences raised to Supervisor
About you
Good knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation and practices- Ability to work well with others and as part of a team
- Demonstrated understanding of and concern for safety and business controls
- Oral and written communication skills
- Self-confidence, independence and flexibility to manage a variable workload
- Initiative and judgment to identify problems and use available resources to solve them
- Knowledge of oil products, operating terminal and equipment and technology
- Knowledge of OIMS, D&A Policy and Product Quality
- Capability with standard desktop systems
- English and Mathematics to GCSE Grade C or above
- HNC or equivalent in a mechanical or electrical trade or relative extensive experience in handling flammable liquids
