Key Responsibilities:
Functional leader of the team that oversees all phases of the monthly pilot bid construction including building & allocating pairings, as well as awarding pilots' individual schedules through PBS (preferential bidding system.) The Sr. Manager works closely with the Workforce Planning and Training Planning teams to build schedules that are safe, reliable and work to balance the risk of the operation across the system. The Sr. Manager must also work as a liaison across many groups, including Network Planning, Crew Scheduling, Safety & Training to ensure plan efficiency across functions.
- Oversee the trip development process to proper design and construction, working closely with the Workforce Planning & Training Planning teams as early as a year in advance of the month of operation to help get pilots to the necessary categories at the right time.
- Oversee the monthly PBS process and having a full understanding where the risk lies as the team builds and finalizes the monthly plan. Then help to create the monthly hand off to crew scheduling that helps set expectations for the month ahead.
- Work cross-functionally within Flight Operations (e.g., Fatigue Management, Training Scheduling, Operations) and outside the division (e.g., pilot union, Network Planning, Ops Analysis, Finance) to ensure viability and efficiency of pilot trip plans.
- Using data and analytics, help develop the long-term strategy for creating schedules that are the most efficient in terms of flying a safe and reliable operation.
- Drive communication with the ALPA System Scheduling Committee (SSC) and the pilots to be upfront with our plans and help explain the “why” in our decision making.
- Working to develop the next generation of functional leaders across the team, putting team members in position to show off their knowledge, skills, and abilities, while at the same time creating opportunities to grow and develop new skillsets.
Qualifications
What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
- BA/BS in Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, Aviation/Aeronautics, Statistics, Operations Research
- 5+ years related experience with 1-year managerial experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience working in aviation
- Exceptional analytics technical skills, whether in Excel or coding in other advanced analytics tools (e.g. python)
- Demonstrated track record of taking an anecdotal hypothesis or abstract concept and re-framing it with analytic rigor
- General Manager mindset that thinks strategically, connects dots, and has foresight to anticipate
- Compulsive belief in establishing and communicating a plan to establish a common purpose across stakeholders whom the plan effects
- Natural inclination to ask "why" and challenge the status quo
- Intellectual curiosity and self-motivation to heed signals in data and want to understand root causes
- Comfortability doing the right thing and taking a tough stance especially when it might be unpopular
- Strong leadership skills, underpinned by empathy, that rally a team across a common purpose, while cultivating an environment that allows for span of care to thrive as their authentic selves
- Experience engaging with senior leaders, leveraging emotional intelligence skills to employ and balance strong executive presence with humility
- Demonstrated track-record of successfully influencing decisions in a cross-functional settings
What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):
- Master’s Degree in Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, Aviation/Aeronautics, Statistics, Operations Research
- 2-3 years managerial experience
- 5 years of experience working in aviation
- Experience with airline planning and scheduling software (Jeppesen, Sabre, Navblue, or other)
- Experience with optimization software
- Knowledge related to CFR FAR 117
