What you’ll be doing

As the Picture Editor you will work collaboratively with the wider team in the creation of compelling visual content for multi-channel activity, that drives brand love, and action through fundraising, marketing and media. As the sole photography expert, you’ll be working across a wide variety of briefs and flagship integrated campaigns, ensuring that imagery is delivered on time, to budget, and through solid production processes.

Through your industry contacts, you’ll find the talent to meet brief requirements whether it’s through commission or image purchasing. You’ll thrive in a busy environment and be able to negotiate stakeholder demands and external contacts whilst maintaining great working relationships.

The role is based at our UK head office, [*with a hybrid working pattern] and your main responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the photography commissioning process, from planning to post-production including, scheduling, briefing and negotiating rates and rights.
  • Assess and prioritise the photography needs across multiple channels and stakeholder teams in line with the organisation’s priorities.
  • Lead across all commissions on the briefing of photographers to ensure consent procedures, ensuring brand, quality, legal, safeguarding, and budgetary requirements are met.
  • Provide in-house and external image research and picture editing.
  • Maintain and foster growth of a network of freelance photographic talent in the UK and overseas.
  • Support and further develop our approach to ethical visual storytelling and champion this approach across the organisation and our photography output.

This role might be for you if…

You are passionate about using photography to create engaging multi-platform content and visual storytelling that will reach new audiences.

You have a track record working in a fast-moving, deadline driven environment - delivering multiple, concurrent projects and can plan and prioritise projects in line with strategic priorities.

You’ll be a strong problem-solver, who enjoys responding creatively to stakeholder briefs.

You possess a creative eye, an elevated aesthetic, sharp technical skills and sound editorial judgment who thrives as part of a busy creative content team.

You have experience of maintaining excellent photography production workflows, right through from brief to delivery, archiving, labelling and organising projects to ensure consistent team wide process.

You enjoy discovering, commissioning and working with new photographers to produce impactful, insightful and competitive visual stories for our audiences.

We are looking for

Your previous experience and excellent skills from the industry, either in-house or agency (and ideally having worked with NGO/non-profit clients), will ensure you can hit the ground running, in addition to:

  • Solid experience commissioning and editing photography within a creative team or agency.
  • Skilled in Adobe Creative Suite (crucially PhotoShop, LightRoom and Bridge).
  • Ability to interrogate creative briefs and deliver ideas in response to brief
  • A brilliant communicator who can collaborate directly with stakeholders, action feedback, and come up with creative solutions to get the best possible outcome
  • A proactive, resourceful, and flexible hard-worker, who can jump from one priority to another and deliver to deadlines
  • Someone who’s kind, with a positive attitude, and has a genuine passion to use their words to make a difference

Ideally, you’ll have at least three years of previous experience either in-house or agency, ideally gained through working with NGO or non-profit clients. We know that not everyone has the same access to career opportunities, though, so we’d still love to receive your application if you have the relevant skills and passion.

Meet the team

Reporting to the Film and Photography manager, you’ll be joining our diverse and hugely talented creative content team – made up of film producers and editors, story gatherers, designers, copywriters and vital production support. (We were also named the in-house creative team of the year in 2021 at the Inside Out awards, in case you missed it…)

Every person in the team has something valuable to offer, no matter who they are. We maximise each other’s skillsets, insight, and links with stakeholders across the wider organisation, to create successful content that meets business objectives. We respond to the internal briefs focussing on areas where our team can make the greatest impact. This means we don’t just churn out assets; we take pride in our work, knowing that it has a real purpose.

Closing date for applications is 23:59 on 14th March with interviews to follow.

We offer a wide range of staff benefits, these include:
36 days holiday (including Bank Holidays)
Option to buy an extra 5 days annual leave
Up to 6% contributory pension
Flexible working policy
Genuine investment in your training and personal development
