Fixed Term Contract – 12 Months

We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic physiotherapy technician to join our friendly and busy department at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. This post is Band 4, full time (37.5 hours) working within the medical team.

This is an exciting opportunity to expand skills and knowledge within medicine. The post will involve covering a variety of medical wards including eldercare, gastro/liver, renal, oncology/haematology and cardiology. The successful candidate will be well supported and supervised by the physiotherapists within the medical team.

We are looking for a team member who can provide physiotherapy input, with guidance from the physiotherapists, on a range of medical patients.

The post is Monday to Friday, and will also include a commitment to 7 day working pattern where by you will be expected to work occasional weekends supporting discharges across the hospital.

A competent Physiotherapy Therapy Technical Instructor with evidence of assessment of competence and supplementary qualifications or comprehensive experience of working as or a Therapy or Health Care Assistant and additional qualifications (such as NVQ Level lll or BTEC national diploma in an appropriate area or sports science/health related degree).

Use effective communication, verbal and non-verbal, to communicate treatment programmes to patients some of whom may have barriers to understanding or communication, e.g. blind, deaf, dysphasic or who do not have English as a first language.

To be an effective team member, respecting the work of others and representing the profession suitably at all times.

To deliver care in a manner sensitive to individual’s needs and wishes, acknowledging and respecting their rights, individual values, cultural and religious diversity at all times.

To be conversant with, and comply with, all health and safety, security and confidentiality, and privacy and dignity regulations that are in force. To attend mandatory training sessions eg fire/health and safety lectures and reporting any accidents and/or hazards etc. using the Trust reporting systems.

Comply with the organisation and departmental policies and procedures and be involved in reviewing and up-dating as appropriate.

To assist in the delivery of Physiotherapy Services by supporting Therapists in the assessment and treatment of surgical patients and the day-to-day running of the physiotherapy service.

To accept patients referred by a Physiotherapist, holding own patient caseload. To treat patients according to set treatment protocols, monitoring patient progression, making alterations (within protocols and scope of practice) to patient treatment programmes as required.

To work unsupervised regularly, reporting back patient progress and informing the therapist of any problems.

For a defined and delegated group of patients - to undertake the assessments, using investigative and analytical skills. To use clinical reasoning a range of assessment and treatment skills and options to formulate treatment programmes.
