KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/OUTCOMES: Clinical To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of patients in your care. To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients such as those with presentations of medical and respiratory pathologies, orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions, paediatric patients, amputees, head injuries and stroke patients. Formulate and deliver a Physiotherapy treatment programme based on sound knowledge of evidence based practise and treatment options. Using clinical assessment, reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment skills Assess patient understanding of treatment, gain valid consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment Evaluate patient progress, re-asses and alter treatment programmes as appropriate Represent Physiotherapy service and/or individual patients at the multi-disciplinary team meetings to ensure the delivery of a co-ordinated multi-disciplinary service and integrate Physiotherapy treatment in to the treatment programme.
This will include discussion of patient care, patient progress and involvement of discharge planning. Managerial To assist with the supervision and co-ordination of students and assistants. To be responsible for organising and planning own caseload to meet service and patient priorities. Adapting plans as situations change/arise e.g.
caseload, staff sickness Communications Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients and carers to progress rehabilitation and treatment programmes. This will include patients who may have difficulties in understanding or communicating. For example, patients may be deaf, blind, have learning difficulties, psychological or language problems or who may be unable to accept diagnosis. Administrative To undertake as directed the collection of data for use in service audit and research projects.
To manage and undertake research in to specific areas of clinical practise and service delivery using a range of research methodologies as part of MDT audit and departmental research initiatives. To document and record legible records of patient assessment and treatment in accordance with trust guidelines and local policy. Governance Work within trust guidelines and CSP guidelines and to have a good working knowledge. Of national and local standards and monitor own quality of practice.
To work within the CSP professional codes of practice to be a safe and competent practitioner Participate in the staff performance development review and be responsible for achieving agreed objectives Undertake the measurement and evaluation of your work and current practices through the use of evidence based practice projects, audit and outcome measures, either individually or with more senior Physiotherapists. Make recommendations for change to the Physiotherapy team Team Role / Staff Management Provide advice to medical and nursing staff and other members of the multi-disciplinary team regarding patients receiving Physiotherapy input Be an active member of the in-service training programme by attendance at, and participation in, in-service training programmes, journal club and peer review. Risk (managerial and supervisory staff) To be responsible for the safe and competent use of all Physiotherapy equipment, respiratory equipment and patient appliances Education and Training/Self-Development Identify own training and development needs and undertake appropriate training/education as required. Participate in an annual individual performance review process where objectives will be agreed, performance monitored and personal development needs discussed.
To attend all statutory and mandatory training as and when required to do so. Act responsibly in respect of colleagues health, safety and welfare following safe work practices and complying with the Trusts Health and Safety Policies. Adhere to all Trust Policies as applicable.
