An opportunity to join our phlebotomy team at Sussex Pathology (www.onedaytests.com), offering phlebotomy services in our private walk-in locations in Croydon.
The position is zero hours at the moment with perspective to become permanent with time. The working hours are 8.00 - 15.00.
Driving license and car required for sample transportation daily. Mileage paid.

Responsibilities and duties:
- Perform venepuncture and capillary blood collection procedures. Extract blood samples from clients in a manner that makes the blood sample suitable/fit for automated, in-house diagnostic testing.
- Experience and skills sufficient to ensure that clients are treated safely and courteously at all times and experience the minimum of distress or discomfort throughout the blood sample procedure.
- Competence in venepuncture and methods of disposal of sharps, syringes and items contaminated with blood as per venepuncture procedures and standards.
- Ensure accurate client records management and data entry.
- Ensure that the samples are correctly labelled and put into the correct containers and otherwise properly treated so as to be suitable for the analysis requested.
- Daily maintenance and procedures for phlebotomy areas.
- Dispose of sharps, clinical and other waste appropriately, in accordance with Company's Infection Control Policy.
- Work within the Company’s Infection Control Policy, principles and guidance in maintaining good high standard of hand hygiene and wearing of protective clothing.
- Maintain working stocks of sample vials and any equipment required for the job ensuring such stock is in date and suitable for use as required.
- Work with the team managers in the allocation of the daily work list and communicating with clients in relation to appointments.
- Booking of tests and payments, information regarding the tests and panels.
- Training of new staff as required.
- Undertake other duties within the framework of the post.
- Experience with butterfly and other needles.
- Driving license and car required as samples need to be taken to the laboratory in Crawley daily. Mileage paid.
Education and Experience
- At least 18 months Phlebotomy experience post certificate or equivalent of NHS venepuncture training.
- Certificate of proof
- DBS within the last 3 years
- IT skills

- To work unsupervised
- Enable clients to make most effective use of resources within the service by ensuring they receive up-to-date information, responding to any questions constructively and taking payments
- Experience of identifying quality issues and service improvement
- Excellent Customer Service skills
- To work as part of a team and ability to cope alone
- The ability to receive and deal effectively with confidential and sensitive information
- Physical skills (e.g. requirement for speed and accuracy, hand-eye co-ordination)
- Able to work in a busy environment
- Able to work under pressure
