JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Phlebotomist
REPORTS TO: Nurse Manager (Clinically)
Assistant Practice Manager (Administratively)
HOURS: 15 hours/week
Job Summary:
This is a clinical role working under the supervision of the practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols; the Health Care Assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
Job Responsibilities may include:
Clinical:
- BP monitoring
- Phlebotomy
- Weight monitoring
- Restocking/maintenance of equipment
- Restocking of clinical areas
- Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care.
- Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
- Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
- Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
- Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.
Administration and professional responsibilities:
Support the Assistant Practice Manager in the implementation of service specifications for GP Outcome Frameworks and other local initiatives.
Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team
Ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes
Ensure the clinical computer system is kept up to date with accurate details recorded
Ensure appropriate items of service claims are made accurately, reporting any problems to the practice administrator
Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the practice
Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports
Attend and participate in practice meetings as required
Assist in formulation of practice philosophy, strategy and policy
To assist in seasonal and special projects as requested e.g. flu campaign
To work with team members to ensure efficient stock control ordering process in place
To work with reception team to ensure appropriate use of Nurse/HCA appointments.

- Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines
- Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks

- Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
- Reporting potential risks identified.
