Job Introduction

We are a looking for an experienced and dedicated Community Phlebotomist to join our team based at Sheppey Community Hospital. In the role, you will a play a critical part in providing essential healthcare services to patients in their homes and in community settings. You will be responsible for collecting blood samples, ensuring the accuracy of blood results, and providing support and information to patients throughout the process.

Hours are typically 8am - 2pm Monday to Friday (no weekends or bank holidays). As this role is a community role visiting patients in their own home on the Isle of Sheppey, we would require a driving license and access to a car to carry out the duties of the role.

Main Responsibilities

As a Phlebotomist you will:

  • Deal with patients, who are having blood sample taken, in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Report any problems to the Senior Sister or GP for advice or remedial action.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintain accuracy of patient identification on blood bottles.
  • Ensure that contemporaneous records are maintained.
  • Ensure that patients’ confidentiality is maintained and that Caldicott principles are adhered to.
  • Maintain standards of care in line with clinical policies and procedures.
The Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • NVQ Level 2
  • UK driving license and access to a car
  • Previous Phlebotomy experience
  • Previous Community experience
  • Theoretical and practical structured assessment on venepuncture
  • Team worker and ability to work alone
  • Ability to listen to and to communicate with patients and carers in a compassionate and caring manner
