Full Time position At the Churchill, Cancer Satellite, The Cancer and Haematology Centre, Oxford

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and proactive pharmacy technician with excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills to join the cancer pharmacy team in this new role.

You will be responsible for the day to day running of the Cancer Satellite maintaining stock control and delivery a high-quality pharmacy service to its patients. Being part of the process for labelling, dispensing and checking the variety of prescriptions that enter the department each day. You will ideally be an ACT checking technician; however training can be given.

The Oxford Cancer Centre and the Brodey Centre provide comprehensive care for patients with cancer within Oxfordshire and surrounding areas. These services include: Oncology, Clinical Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplant unit, In-patient and Outpatient services, Specialist palliative care service, pain relief unit, and a Cancer Research UK Clinical Research unit. The centre is an Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC) and a Biomedical Research Centre (BMRC). The Specialist Cancer Pharmacy Team has a skill mix of Specialist Cancer Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians. We provide day case dispensing in our Satellite Pharmacy in Oxford and the Brodey Centre at the Horton Hospital in Banbury. We also dispense for Outpatient clinics for the Cancer directorate which includes Radiotherapy.

  • Being part of the dispensing process for labelling, dispensing and checking - if qualified
  • Managing and maintaining good stock control
  • Coordinating the day to day activities in the cancer satellite
  • You will respond to enquiries and requests from staff, patients and carers and ensure appropriate and accurate information is readily available, and to escalate questions to other members of the pharmacy team and troubleshoot where appropriate. You will be expected to coordinate the Cancer Satellite Dispensary team and to form good working relationships with staff from all the different groups within the Cancer Services, work together as part of a team.
  • You should ideally have experience of working as a qualified Pharmacy Technician, using computer systems for dispensing and stock control and have good communication, be well organised and able to use your own initiative.
  • This post would suit somebody with either a hospital pharmacy background, or with community pharmacy experience wishing to make a change into the hospital environment, for which appropriate training will be provided. You must have successfully achieved the relevant units of pharmacy services skills NVQ level 2 (QCF) or an equivalent GPhC accredited training programme.
