CPFT has an exciting opportunity to join us as a Clinical Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician. We are looking for a GPhC registered Technician to join our friendly team based at the Cavell Centre in Peterborough on a full-time basis.

The post holder will work closely alongside our pharmacists and technicians on our wards based at the Cavell Centre, carrying out various medicines management activities, as well as supporting our in-house dispensary on site. There is also a requirement to assist in the medicines management service at Trafford ward based at the North Cambs Hospital in Wisbech.

This role is a band 4 / band 5 post for a qualified pharmacy technician registered with the GPhC. This role would be suitable for those looking to develop their skills and obtain accreditation in both ACT and medicine management skills (if not already obtained).

The banding will be based on experience and will be paid as a band 5 upon completion of accreditations in both medicines’ management and final accuracy checking.This is therefore available as a development post, if you are appointed as a Band 4, you will be given a list of competencies to complete, these will be reviewed at the time of your annual appraisal. On completion you will rise to a Band 5.

This post is offered as a full-time role (37.5hrs) and the working week is Monday to Friday.

The post holder will work closely alongside the ward pharmacists and other technicians in the Cavell pharmacy team.

The clinical medicines management technician team are responsible for the day to day service to provide a high quality, comprehensive clinical medicines management service to the in-patient mental health wards and locality teams and external CPFT services in the Peterborough and Fenland localities. The post holder will be expected to travel between locations to do this.

The clinical medicines management technicians are expected to contribute to service development within the clinical medicines management service and to be the contact point for any problems or issues that arise within these parts of the pharmacy service.

This role will also support the dispensary service at the Cavell Centre – contributing to the planning and execution of a pharmacy technician-led dispensary. Part of this role will be to undertake accuracy checking of dispensed items. The post holder will contribute to supervising the pharmacy support workers to ensure a seamless service is provided.

1. To assist with medicines management service and the dispensing service at the Cavell Centre.
2. To assist with medicines management service at Trafford ward at the North Cambs hospital in Wisbech.
3. To work with other medicines management technicians and team managers to provide adequate cover for activities across these services, prioritising and directing as required to ensure that optimum service delivery is maintained.
4. To support the education and training for student pharmacy technicians and pre-registration pharmacists within the clinical medicines management service role and generally for pharmacy support workers.
5. To identify the need for, prepare and revise Standard Operating Procedures and other policy documentation relating to the pharmacy service to ensure working practices comply with legal and quality standards.
6. To propose, and contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the clinical medicines management services to develop the service for the benefit of pharmacy staff, ward/team staff, service users and carers. Support the implementation of changes in the policies and manage the change appropriately.
7. Participation in medication history screening on wards, often involving problem solving, communication with service users, carers, GPs and other health professionals.
8. Participate in medicines management schemes on the wards including Patients Own Drugs, Self-Administration, medicines reconciliation and non-stock top ups in other areas.
9. Undertake counselling of service users about their medicines and provide information and advice about medicines to service users, carers and other health professionals e.g. medical and nursing staff. Have active involvement in discharge planning for service users ensuring a seamless medicines pathway into primary care.
10. Participate in Trust wide medicines management initiatives.
11. Contribute to education and training about medicines management to nursing staff and other professionals
12. Participate in clinical audit projects and audit of the clinical medicines management service
13. To contribute to dispensary accuracy checking of prescriptions and patient counselling, as appropriate.
14. Maintain good stock control in the dispensary and on the wards in conjunction with the pharmacy support workers and the dispensary manager.
15. Participate in the issuing of Clozapine for in-patients and out-patients ensuring prompt completion, distribution and documentation in accordance with the guidelines for the use of this drug.
16. Supervise or actively prepare a limited range of extemporaneous medicines.
17. Manage and supervise the pharmacy support workers in the absence of the Dispensary Manager.
18. Dispense medicines and provide annual leave or sickness cover for other team members if required.
