Pharmacy Assistant Technical Officer Static Band 2 – Stores and Distribution

Full time – equating to 37.5 hours per week, to include early and late shifts, weekends and bank holiday working

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Pharmacy Assistant Technical Officer in the stores and distribution area. You will join our dedicated team delivering ward services at University Hospital of North Midlands.

We are looking for a flexible, highly motivated, dynamic and enthusiastic person to provide a pharmaceutical service to our in-patients and out-patients.

You must have excellent organisational and communication skills and you will need to be able to work effectively with the existing team both at ward level and within the pharmacy directorate. You will need to be methodical, accurate and be able to follow strict procedures.

The role is varied and will include:

  • Telephone duties which includes answering queries and taking adhoc orders
  • Assembly of orders for distribution to wards and dispensaries, the receipt of medicines for onward supply to wards and departments
  • Undertake stock ordering and supply for wards
  • Maintaining stock storage and levels and adhering to good distribution practice
  • Assisting in the maintenance of stock levels of medicines on wards and departments by participating in the pharmacy ward topping up service
  • Participate in the day to day running of the automated dispensing robot.
The post holder will work as part of a pharmacy team of Assistant Technical Officers, Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists to deliver the pharmacy service to UHNM

The UHNM NHS Trust covers Royal Stoke Hospitals in Stoke on Trent and County Hospital in Stafford. Royal Stoke is a large acute teaching hospital with a Turnover of £360 million. Located in Stoke on Trent and Stafford, UHNM is close to the M6, within commuting distance of culturally diverse major conurbations, such as Manchester and Birmingham and surrounded by rural pleasures, including the Peak District National Park.

Each year Royal Stoke cares for over 600,000 people providing emergency treatment, planned operations and medical care. It is a leading teaching hospital in partnership with Keele University and has a patient-centred clinical research facility providing state-of-the-art facilities.

At UHNM the Pharmacy Directorate is a modern, purpose-built pharmacy department working across both sites. We constantly strive to re-engineer our services to improve our delivery of patient focused pharmaceutical care. This includes a recently updated pharmacy computer system, integration of an automated dispensing robot, implementation of one stop dispensing and wireless electronic medicines management at the patient’s bedside.

You will support the supply of medicines, including liaising with wards and departments and external customers.

It is necessary to liaise with internal stakeholders to support the timely supply of medicines and processing of orders. We are looking for someone who is able to show initiative; is helpful and approachable; organised and can work accurately; good IT skills, problem solving and communication skills.

It is a requirement to be able to demonstrate working unsupervised to the required deadline.

You will have previous experience in a similar environment, with a willingness to work in other areas within pharmacy.

You will be responsible for the processing of ward orders and external stock requisitions for the delivery of medicines. You will be required to liaise with clinical teams, ward staff and external customers to resolve queries and to ensure patients receive their medicines in a timely manner.

The Pharmacy Department provide medicines management and medicines optimisation services from both sites. We have implemented a 7 day working service – delivering high quality pharmaceutical care to the patients of this Trust 7 days a week. You will have the ability to work as a team member and to work on own initiative, completing allocated work and ensuring rotas are complied with.

The post holder will be given specific training in all areas to help develop skills further; this will include working towards a BTEC Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Support Staff

The directorate actively promotes development, education and training.
