Our pharmacy departments are looking for outstanding applicants with a high degree of enthusiasm, flexibility and commitment to train and study as a Pharmacy Assistant Apprentice.

The posts are fora 15 month fixed term training contract, based at Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospitals.

Once successfully completed, this will result in you completing a Level 2 Pharmacy Services Assistant Apprenticeship, achieving a BTEC Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Support Staff!

***Please note - if you possess a Level 4 qualification or above are not eligible for apprenticeship funding.***

Apprentices will be required to work towards Level 2 Pharmacy Services Assistant Apprenticeship to achieve BTEC Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Support Staff. You will receive full support from an in house mentor and college assessor to complete the qualification.

The department provides an extensive range of services where qualified Medicines Management Assistants play an important role working alongside Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals. Their responsibilities are varied and include dispensing and distribution of medicines; all aspects of stock management; order assembly of pharmaceutical products for issuing to internal and external customers; pharmacy and ward based medicines housekeeping duties; and supporting safe storage of medicines and minimisation of medicines waste.

Once you have completed this apprenticeship it puts you in a great position to apply for a pharmacy assistant post within the trust!

Duties to include but not be limited to:

  • Communicate all relevant information and advice to the pharmacy, nursing and medical teams; patients and service users; and with external organisations as required
  • Provide an effective medicine supply service (stock and dispensed medicines) to wards/departments and patients of the Trust by receiving necessary training
  • Provide an effective medicine supply service (stock and dispensed medicines) to external customers.
  • Maintain stock of department medicines, placing orders with external suppliers and receiving goods.
  • Contribute to effective stock management within the pharmacy department ensuring compliance with MHRA requirements and Good Distribution Practice
  • Provides an effective reception service, receiving incoming work and dealing with customer enquiries.
  • Maintains stock of dispensing sundries and carries out pharmacy housekeeping duties to maintain good environmental standards.
  • Ensure ward and department compliance with Safe and Secure storage of medicines standards
  • Participates in activities to support minimising medicines wastage
  • Comply with legal and organisational requirements, standards and codes of practice on equality, diversity, discrimination and rights relevant to own role and responsibilities
  • To ensure any incidents and near misses are identified, reported and recorded according to Trust policy.
Please note as this position is an apprenticeship role it will involve rotation across both Royal Preston and Chorley District General Hospital sites and also different areas of the department over the 15 month training programme.
