Job description
Pharmaceutical Analyst (horizon scanning – non cancer medicines - Ref: 158441)
Scottish Medicines Consortium
Permanent, Full time (37.5 hours per week)
£56,992 - £61,522 (Band 8A)
Edinburgh or Glasgow - Hybrid working will apply for the foreseeable future
The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) (https://www.scottishmedicines.org.uk/) provides the national source of advice on the clinical and cost-effectiveness of all new medicines for NHSScotland. SMC also has a horizon scanning function that provides NHS Boards with early intelligence on new medicines in development.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a self-motivated pharmacist to work with the horizon scanning team to expand the role of SMC in supporting health board financial and service planning for non-cancer medicines.
You will systematically review horizon scanning resources in order to identify non-cancer medicines in clinical development that may have financial and or service implications in practice. By critically evaluating the information available, including clinical expert testimony and considering uncertainties in the eligible population and uptake, you will identify these medicines and will quantify impact for the Forward Look report and other briefings, used by senior personnel in NHS boards across Scotland. You will also provide highly specialist advice on these medicines to support the SMC assessment process.
There will be an opportunity to provide a clinical service within a territorial board through an honorary contract.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced clinical pharmacist with highly developed critical evaluation and analytical skills to further develop these skills within SMC. You should have proven ability to work well in a multidisciplinary environment, excellent oral and written presentation skills and the ability to work effectively to strict deadlines. You must have a Masters degree in Pharmacy or equivalent with a higher level qualification, and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. .
For an informal discussion please contact Helen Wright, Principal Pharmaceutical Analyst ([email protected])
