We are looking for a Equine Groom Apprentice to join us at our 5-star family run Livery Yard. This is an opportunity to work in fast and friendly working environment, and you will have the chance to learn a great deal and work alongside lovely horses and people.
This is an exciting opportunity for driven individuals who wish to make their start in the equine industry and pursue a career with horses.
Salary: £5.28-£10.42 per hour, dependant on age.
Hours: 30-40 hours per week. 5 days per week with one of these days at college. The exact days and timings will depend on what we feel works, but this may include weekends. The apprenticeship can be very flexible in relation to working patterns.

About us:
Cindy Llewellyn is a partner of Downgate Farm LLP Livery and runs a small livery yard based at her home. This is a quiet, private yard for the families' own horses and has some spaces available for livery. A small team of experienced staff ensure that all the horses receive the best care possible.
The 5-star facilities at Downgate Farm near Heathfield includes: a large, airy American Barn, each horse has its own front and back top door; a covered 5-horse walker; a separate surfaced and enclosed lunge pen; a 500m x 1.5m sand trot/canter track; individual turnout paddocks; secure alarmed tack rooms, solarium and wash bay; excellent off-road hacking; a 25 x 60m wax surfaced school with dressage boards, show jumps, XC type fences; a solarium wash bay perfect for washing down and keeping the horses clean and tidy.
What will the apprentice be doing?
The apprentice will undertake general stable duties which include:
- mucking out of horses' stables.
- the general care of the horses.
- the maintenance of Tack and equipment related to horses.
What qualifications will the apprentice recieve?
The apprentice will recieve a Level 2 Equine Groom apprenticeship qualification, which will include:
- Yard & Field Routines & Duties
- Horse Anatomy, Physiology & Welfare
- Horse Handling Care & Welfare
- Saddlery & Equipment
- Travelling Horses
- Non-Ridden Exercise
- Riding / Non-riding (can choose either pathway)
- English and maths: Apprentices without level 2 English and maths must achieve level 1 and take the test for level 2 before taking the end-point assessment.
Training at Plumpton College will be one day per week during term time.
You will achieve an intermediate apprenticeship upon successful completion of your end point assessment.

Additional Information:
As the role is rural with limited public transport, own vehicle is recommended.
Cindy is currently on annual leave in Canada, and will return from the 3rd August, so interviews will not be taking place this time.
