Personnel Security Officer

You know what it takes to deliver excellent personnel security to manage and minimise the risk of people exploiting legitimate access to company assets, people, and premises, whilst providing advice and support to mitigate security risks. Whilst we need to recruit the right individual with right experience and skillset, a good understanding of the principles of data protection and a strong commitment to confidentiality and discretion is equally important when handling sensitive personal and organisational data. That`s why we need you! As our Personnel and Physical Security Officer, you’ll play an important role in the delivery of National Security Vetting across our business. You`ll undertake risk assessments and collate and verify information to maintain our personnel risk matrix ensuring information is gathered promptly as our new business grows. You`ll be the first point of contact for applicants undergoing NSV vetting and will liaise with Government Departments providing clear communication and information flow throughout the vetting application lifecycle. You will work across all levels of the organisation providing a risk-based approach to personnel security. You`ll maintain effective quality control and audit systems documenting NSV roles making sure all information is documented and appropriately retained. You’ll need an appreciation of how this works, although we can teach you the details. You’ll have to be structured and considered in your approach, and happy communicating and building relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
What you'll do
You will be responsible for delivering Security Vetting in line with the standards and processes of United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV). This will include the collation and verification of sensitive data to support new applications; ensuring processes conform with internal vetting standards and business requirements.
The role holder will provide clear communication and information flow with relevant parties throughout the vetting application lifecycle. High quality administrative support to aid the smooth running of the department, as well as the effective delivery of small system changes across a range of business processes is required of this role to ensure UK Physical Security can effectively manage personnel security issues across the business.
Key Accountabilities:
- Maintenance of the National Security Vetting (NSV) Tracker and risk assessment matrix
- Support the Lead Personnel Security Specialist in the delivery of National Security Vetting Awareness training and stakeholder briefings
- Conduct NSV risk assessments working towards being able to undertake risk assessments independently
- Provide high quality administrative support to the department and relevant senior managers
- To maintain an effective quality control and audit system of roles requiring NSV ensuring all information roles requiring security clearance are documented with supporting rationales and are appropriately retained.
- Assess and escalate Exception Risk Assessment (ERA) cases where policy dispensation requests are made
- Engage with HR (Preemployment Screening Team) and support Adverse Background Checking panel meetings
- Support effective communications relating to policies, processes, and guidance to all relevant stakeholders
- Provide clear dashboards on Personnel Security progress in particular key areas of focus
- To work in a cross functional team, undertaken various works within the Personnel Security
- Reporting to management and undertaking the working from abroad procedure and identifying incidents on breaches to policies
What you'll need
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to deal with sensitive information in a professional manner and apply the highest levels of discretion
- High level of competence in MS Excel and other Microsoft Office 365 Applications
- This role is subject to National Security Vetting (NSV) in addition to our standard background checks being undertaken. National Security Vetting requires that you meet the Minimum Residency Criteria (MRC). You will have lived continuously in the United Kingdom for the required period of time (5 years)

A competitive salary between £40,000 - £54,000 – dependent on capability.
