Job description
The Role: To provide care and support to a young female, who requires a team of bright, cheerful, and understanding carers to support her to live an exciting and fulfilling life. This role includes multiple shifts for multiple employees, and there are full-time and part-time positions available. The start date will be the 3rd April 2023.
Location: Birmingham City Centre
Please note training will be provided to all potential applicants.
Main Duties
· Full Assistance with getting up, showered and dressed
· To use a hoist for all transfers
· To prepare meals and drinks
· To support with shopping
· General domestic household chores, such as laundry, mopping floors etc
· To operate equipment, such as wheelchairs, ventilators, and cough assist machines
· To maintain and administer medication as and when required
· To support with physiotherapy, and hydrotherapy.
· To accompany to work, hospital visits, meetings and social events. You will be required to take notes at meetings.
· To assist to use local transport day-to-day
· To drive a Motability vehicle as and when required. For example, hospital assessments and holidays
· Light DIY tasks, such as changing lightbulbs, wheelchair upkeep etc
· To assist with campaign work, which may involve being filmed by the press
Personal Qualities and Attributes required:
- Good sense of humour, with excellent verbal communication
- Ability to use initiative, be self-motivated and work in a team
- Comfortable with assisting with personal care
- Physically active and happy to occupy yourself when not needed
- Quick learner, and a good working memory
- Perceptive of boundaries in professional/personal relationships
- Able to be patient, positive and professional at all times, particularly when under pressure
- Confident traveller and sense of direction (using Google maps/sat nav etc)
- Proud to be an invaluable yet discreet facilitator in my life, but not in the spotlight
- Ability to use smartphones, apps and basic technology eg Word/Excel
- Perform manual handling safely, consistently and without instruction
- Perform routine tasks and responsibilities without prompting
- Respectful of dignity and independence
- Driver over 25 (car insurance purposes)
All employees are not constantly working, there is plenty of opportunities for rest, and you will be required to occasionally occupy yourself with your own interests, whilst the employer is working, or meeting friends.
Hours: Multiple shifts available, which are broken down as follows:
On call shifts - You will not need to be at work, but must be available to come into work if needed i.e. – If the main PA falls ill or 2 people are required. You will be paid overtime if you are needed to work on your ‘available shifts’.
Working shifts – You will be required for 3-4 consecutive days and nights; you will be able to sleep during the night but may be called if needed.
During a 28-day rota period, there are 7 working days and 7 on-call days which is
explained further below.
● 2 days on-call, 3 days working, 2 days on-call - then 4 days off
● 1 day on-call, 4 days working, 2 days on-call - then 10 days off
Change-over days are Monday and Thursday. The rota pattern is fixed and cannot be changed but this means you can plan your life months in advance. NB that it is not possible to swap or take time off when working/available (unless in exceptional circumstances) and all holidays to be taken in time off. You may be offered overtime during your time off (eg to accompany me on holiday), but this is entirely optional. When on-call, you need to stay within the drink driving limit and be able to head into work straight away if called.
Pay: £26,000 per year, plus overtime.
