JOB DESCRIPTION FOR A PERSONAL ASSISSTANT
Aims and purpose of role
To support a young man with cerebral palsy and is wheelchair bound. Support is required to enable him to access and participate in his particular interest in music but accessing other interests and activities would also be encouraged. Emphasis is very much on engagement and socialising.
The right person should be around the same age as the young man and must be able to play the piano and have a soprano voice as the young man would like to play songs he has learnt previously and wants someone to accompany him. The right person will be a friendly and welcoming individual.
As the young man is wheelchair bound the role may involve a small amount of personal care.
Hours of Work
6 hours each week. Flexible times and hours to be agreed with the family.
Rate of Pay
From £11.50. Out of pocket expenses during working hours such as petrol to be met by the employer.
Location
Clients home in the Criccieth area and out in the community with the client.
DUTIES
· Promote choice, independence, dignity and respect
· To support young person to access community settings and social activities. These can include visiting shops, social events and any other social activities he has an interest in.
· To support the young person in his interest of music – whether this be at home or within the community through accessing local groups.
· Be a companion
· Ensuring that the person’s social needs are met and that he is supported at all times to be as independent as possible by offering choices and respecting her choice, within reason
· Ensuring that the person is safe at all times and that social boundaries are maintained as well as can be expected.
· Ensuring that the person is happy and comfortable at all times.
· Any other duties which may be reasonably allocated and fall within the scope and responsibilities of this role
· To undertake any relevant training when necessary
Personal Specification
· Good communication skills
· Have good awareness of safe manual handling
· Have previous experience of supporting people with disabilities or willing to undergo training in order to ensure the safety and well being of the person
· Be compassionate and respectful
· Establish a professional standard of care which is to be maintained at all times
· Ensure that due consideration is given to Health and Safety at all times
· Respect and safeguard the persons’ goods and property
· Respect privacy and uphold confidentiality at all times
· Be punctual, reliable and flexible
· Have a full UK license and use of a vehicle.
· Have a clear DBS check
Job Type: Part-time
