Norfolk County Council
Full Time East Dereham, England 30151 - 32020 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Permanent contract | 37 hours per week | £30,151 to £32,020 per annum (Grade H) | Dereham (hybrid working)

Hi, I’m Lisa Hilson, Service Manager for the Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) Service. I have worked with Norfolk County Council for five years, as well as having worked in other counties in the East of England, and across Children’s Services. As part of the UASC service development plan we are looking to expand our social care teams. We therefore have several opportunities within the service.

We have increased our service to four social care teams to ensure we can continue to offer a committed and outstanding service to our children and young people.

I am proud of the service and continued commitment to improving the outcomes for children. The service is very friendly and supportive, and we have built a culture which nurtures development, creativity and child centred practice. Our Team Managers really support their teams and the work they do to achieve positive outcomes for our young people.

Right now, we are looking for a Personal Advisor to work in our Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children’s (UASC) Team. We hope that you will have experience working with care leavers/adults 18+ and understand the challenges they face in transitioning to independence/adulthood.

This is an exciting service in Norfolk which continues to develop and grow. You will be part of developing the working practices within the teams as well as working closely with partner agencies to develop a robust, positive offer to those children and young people entering Norfolk (the UK) for the first time. We offer a friendly and supportive environment and look forward to welcoming dedicated and experienced social work professionals.

Norfolk is a fantastic place to live and work. We are a countywide team, but our main base is in the Breckland area, in Dereham. However, we do use Norwich as a base for team meetings also. We are a hybrid service although encourage teams and workers to meet regularly in office spaces which are hybrid friendly.

Breckland is a particularly beautiful part of Norfolk. Predominately rural but with not too much travelling across the area for our teams. The area has easy access to the A11 and the A47 and within easy reach of the city of Norwich. Thetford is home to the beautiful Thetford Forest with an array of activities on offer, from cycling to open air concerts. Dereham is a traditional market town with numerous restaurants and shops.

These are some benefits you can enjoy by working for Norfolk County Council:

  • Competitive salary
  • Generous holiday entitlement with the ability to buy and sell leave
  • Health and Wellbeing services including fast-track physiotherapy and a free counselling service
  • Flexible working opportunities including flexi-time, part time, remote and hybrid working – dependent on your job role and business need.
  • Financial benefits such as:
    • ‘ Norfolk Rewards’ our employee discount programme which helps you save money on almost anything , from everyday groceries and clothes, to holidays, new technology, gym membership, trips to the cinema and days out.
    • A Blue Light card for Fire Service and Social Care Workers
    • Relocation expenses paid upfront (where applicable)
    • An advance of your expenses if you travel for work
    • Local Government Pension Scheme with generous employer contribution, life assurance, death in service payments and dependants’ pensions.
    • A payment if you refer someone you know to a hard to fill job.
    • Tax efficient ways of getting extra pension, new bikes and electric cars.
