Job description
Stadler Rail Service UK are looking to recruit a Performance Engineer as part of the TSSSA team supporting the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport contract in Glasgow. You will play an active role in managing the fleet performance working with both internal and external suppliers and customers. The successful individual must be able to demonstrate robust knowledge of rolling stock systems, preferably gained within a similar role. We are looking for a proactive flexible and dynamic individual who can actively manage their workload in order to meet company objectives. The expectation will be that the successful candidate shapes and molds the role to maximize the fleets potential.
Performance Engineer
Your Tasks
Personnel:
- Demonstrated understanding and experience with system know-how and know-why of performance improvement techniques and process.
- Demonstrated understanding and experience with systems engineering including design, development and process.
- Demonstrated ability to understand, review, revise and approve complex engineering designs, reports, recommendations, investigations that may have significant impact to the safe and effective operation of a public transport system.
- Ensure high quality reporting in relation to in-service and other defects, both at system and component level, utilising analytical methods.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems.
- Demonstrated capability to write high quality non-technical and technical reports relating to both production and technical performance.
- Demonstrated ability to constructively participate with key stakeholders, including with internal functional areas of the business, as well as external agencies and Original Equipment Manufacturers & Suppliers, including attending meetings in place of the TSSSA Site Manager to understand client needs.
- Demonstrated ability to inform, negotiate and persuade all levels of a business from MD to Production Operatives.
- Ability to understand and interpret legislation and standards relating to people & product health and safety, production, technical and general transport matter.
- Risk identification, assessment, mitigating and documenting all manner of risks to demonstrate compliance with relevant legislation and become the basis of safe systems of work.
- Demonstrate a passion for continual improvement, people development, operational excellence and end user experience
- Lead and represent business in client meetings.
- Lead and represent function/project in relation to best practice.
- Develop business cases to support investment including but not limited to, cost down, reliability growth, performance improvement, risk reduction.
- Provide On-Call Support as part of an on call roster.
- Develop robust and complex technical files to support engineering change submissions.
- Undertake any other activity that you have the skill and ability to perform.
Organisational:
- Management of performance regime to ensure targets are achieved.
- Support the development and implementation of standards and procedures in accordance with legal, legislative and moral obligations of Stadler.
- Oversee reporting for example on safety failures and incidents and various management reports.
- Responsible for adhering to safety / quality systems and support the implementation thereof.
- Embed a zero harm culture within production function with people and product safety considerations at front of mind for everyone.
- Initiate and where authorised implement action to prevent the occurrence of product non-conformances (non-compliance), rail safety, HS&E incidents, process deficiencies or system deficiencies.
- Annual identification and quantification of risks in order to complete the risk register.
- Demonstrate values based behaviour.
Your Profile
Essential:
- HNC/HND level of education in Engineering.
- Relevant experience on modern rolling stock.
- Knowledge of rolling stock systems.
- Proven extensive experience in a large engineering environment with a focus on systems engineering, design and development maintenance/manufacturing/production, verification and validation and through-life support.
- Knowledge of maintenance activities within a large multi-disciplined transport fleet.
- Proven record of achievement and extensive experience in an engineering environment.
- Knowledge, experience and understanding of risk and safety in the workplace, within an engineering perspective.
- Knowledge and experience in conducting and leading complex engineering root cause investigations.
- Excellent Microsoft package knowledge including high experience of working with Excel.
- Driving licence.
Desirable:
- Degree, or working towards, in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Aerospace or similar).
- Understanding of rail industry fleet performance metrics.
- Experienced in the management of suppliers and contractors.
- Experience in the introduction of new trains and warranty management.
- Knowledge and experience in advanced Lean, Kaizen and 5S and other modern production techniques.
- Clear understanding of the principles of production techniques and process's and the interaction between the functions across the business.
