Job description
We have an opportunity for a Pension Calculations Assistant to join our Technical Services Team in Darlington on a permanent basis.
Who we are
Railpen is responsible for the safekeeping and investment of around £37 billion in assets and the administration of several pension schemes, including the Railways Pension Scheme, one of the UK's largest and longest established pension funds.
Our heritage of looking after the pension needs of the rail industry and its employees gives us our name and our unique outlook on how we serve our members. Railpen takes a holistic view, focusing on how we serve members today and how we can positively impact the communities and the world they will retire into.
The role
The core purpose of this role is to help fulfil our mission by supporting the efficient processing of member pension calculations referred to the Technical Services team, using a suite of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets that have been developed within the business. The role will also support the completion of other team processes, such as collating data and information for regulatory returns to HMRC and the Pensions Regulator, as well as supporting complex non-calculation queries that come into the team from the wider business.
The Person
We are looking for someone who has the aptitude and interest in developing a career in pensions and who has a willingness to learn technical pension skills, including administration calculations and processes. You will have an interest in developing your skills to gain an in depth understanding and knowledge of pensions and the processes linked to member benefit calculations, as well as the scheme rules and wider pensions legislation that influence these. A background in the pensions industry is desirable but not essential as full training and support can be provided to the successful candidate.
To succeed in this role you will have good numerical, analytical and investigative skills and experience of using or developing Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. You will also have the ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal) whilst explaining complex information clearly and unambiguously. We are looking for someone who is customer service driven and has the ability to balance priorities and workloads whilst understanding the importance of meeting service-level agreements and proactively managing customer expectations.
We will welcome applications from school, college or university leavers who have the right qualities to develop into the role.
What we can offer you
- A competitive salary (dependent on experience)
- 26 days holiday plus 8 days bank holiday and eligibility to join the generous Annual Bonus Plan
- We provide one of the most competitive defined benefits pension schemes consisting of a 10.5% employee contribution and 17.3% employer contribution and medical cash plan cover.
- We support hybrid and flexible working
- We couple all of the above with a supportive, long-term environment with tremendous opportunities to learn and develop your career.
