Walnut Tree School
Walnut Tree School is an independent co-educational day school for students aged 7-19 with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. The school delivers full time education and covers both academic and vocational subjects in line with national benchmarks. We deliver differentiated teaching and learning activities within small groups in a purpose-built school environment. As a school, we work collaboratively with residential and therapeutic practitioners with a focus on encouraging resilience and supporting holistic growth to promote pupils’ well-being.
The Headteacher is seeking to appoint an aspiring PE Instructor / Teacher to join this thriving specialist School. Reporting to the Headteacher, the PE Instructor / Teacher will be responsible for the delivery of engaging and challenging lessons, ensuring that the department and the school are successful in achieving its aims. The PE Instructor / Teacher will be an enthusiastic, flexible and determined individual who shares our values and is looking to develop their career in this specialist area.
PE Instructor / Teacher Person Specification:
- Understanding of teaching, learning and qualifications
- Experience of working in non-mainstream settings with challenging learners
- Ability to empathise and support the development of learning
- Robust understanding of safeguarding procedures
- Ability to work as part of a small team
- Excellent delivery and communication skills
- You must be reliable, flexible, adaptable, and possess the ability to motivate and inspire.
- Good coordination and organisational skills
- Demonstrable track record of student achievement
- Innovative, fast thinking and versatile
- Excellent time management
- Good general level of ICT skills including Microsoft Office
- Experience of working with E3/L1 qualifications
- Relevant teaching qualification or vocational experience – Essential
Purpose of the Job:
- The PE Instructor / Teacher will teach a range of young people the majority of who will have either learning or behavioural difficulties or both. To be cognisant of different methods in which children learn and to apply these sympathetically within the structure of lessons.
- The PE Instructor / Teacher will maintain good professional practices in accordance with the minimum standards.
- The PE Instructor / Teacher will help create a positive environment for each young person with particular reference to his or her safety, health and education.
