Job description
BTP are recruiting PCSOs (Police Community Support Officer) - Join us and make a difference!
Our job (and if you chose to apply, yours too) is to protect and serve the railway environment and its community, keeping levels of disruption, crime and the fear of crime as low as possible and our police community support officers (PCSOs) are vital to achieving this.
Neighbourhood policing is as important to BTP as it is to other forces; it’s simply that our neighbourhood looks different to your local town. It is more transient and will pose just as many challenges. You will have the same responsibilities of Home Office PCSOs but focused within a railway environment which will also allow you to enforce BTP Byelaws.
No two days will be the same as you help protect and reassure the passengers, railway staff and retailers within the BTP Community. As well as conducting visible patrols at stations, you’ll confidently deal with a number of tasks, including crowd control; dealing with security threats; undertaking minor crime investigation; working with your community to build and maintain relationships and partnerships, and providing support and assistance to PC’s.
You’ll need to be resilient with a real flair for customer service. You’ll have a passion for engaging with the community and forging strong links with our partner organisations. PCSOs will also need to be prepared to work shifts, including weekends and bank holidays to support this work. All in all, this is an incredibly rewarding job!
In return for your commitment you will:
- Receive a starting salary up to £32,105.01 for London posts, this includes London Allowance (£2,835.11) and up to 20% shift allowance / Receive a starting salary up to £29,269.9 for outside of London posts, this includes up to 20% shift allowance - some shift patterns may attract different allowance rates.
- Receive 28 days holiday (rising to 30 days with service)
- Receive travel benefits (dependent on location)
- Have the opportunity of internal progression to become a Police Officer.
- Have a rewarding career where no two days are ever the same
- Be constantly challenged and always learning; supported by our in-house talent & development teams.
- Be valued for your contribution to your community
- Have access to employee assistance programmes, dedicated wellbeing hub and coaches & mentors from across the force.
- Have excellent pay progression, a pension scheme and benefits package
We want our organisation to be as diverse as the community it serves and welcome applications from everyone. Please be assured that all applications will be judged on their individual merit and no other factors. We are committed to improving inclusivity, accessibility and employment opportunities throughout our organisation. We welcome applicants to share any specific needs or requirements with us throughout both the recruitment process and in the workplace. Please let us know if there are any adjustments you require, and we will be able to discuss this with you in further detail.
Application process and eligibility:
Applying is easy; simply click on ‘Apply’ at the bottom left of this page and you will be taken through the process. All applications must be completed online via this method. - You have been unsuccessful following a BTP PCSO interview in the last 6 months.
- You have been unsuccessful following BTP vetting checks within the last 12 months.
