Job overview: This opening will be perfect for someone who either has an accounts background or some payroll experience. Or failing this, keen to learn and with a can-do attitude! There is potential for the right candidate to be enrolled onto an apprenticeship in Payroll.
Job location: Voyager Park, Portfield Road, Portsmouth, PO3 5GF.
Working Hours: 8 hours per day, either 8am - 4pm, 9am to 5pm or anywhere in-between.
Interview Structure: An initial interview will take place via Microsoft Teams. Initial interviews can be available Monday to Friday between 8am and 3pm, or evenings between 7pm and 9pm upon request. Evening working is not part of this role, it just makes it easier for our next potential colleague to attend an interview!
Job Function & Key Tasks
· Responsible for the accurate and timely entry of data into the time & attendance system and payroll system
· Responsible for the end-to-end processing of monthly payroll, from data input to HMRC processing
· Responsible for simple payroll data/monthly reporting
· Responsible for some company benefits, for example processing any salary sacrifice schemes such as company pension scheme and cycle scheme.
· Any other task as reasonably required to fulfil the job function
Principle Responsibilities
- Alongside the HR department, responsible for the time and attendance system and payroll system, checking it on a daily basis and investigating errors
- Processing payroll from start to finish on Sage 50 Payroll software
- Knowledge of Statutory Payments, HMRC thresholds, Payroll and Pension legislations
- Responsible for collating overtime and hours worked for payroll from the time and attendance system
- Deal with all departments and Senior Management for staff hours collections/issues for payroll
- Responsible for weekly reporting of Agency workers hours, issuing to the agencies for their weekly payroll
- Deal with pension auto-enrolment and changes
- Process the pension payments to pension provider
- Ad hoc duties as determined by the HR Function
Skills and Experience
· The ability to work independently, to be self- driven and to set and monitor own goals - essential
· Good interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) to liaise with employees and supervisors - essential
· Effective planner, with good time management skills - essential
· Strong excel skills (lookups, pivot tables etc) – desirable
Education, Experiences & Qualifications
· Experience of running an end-to-end payroll – desirable
· Experience of Sage 50 Payroll system - desirable
· Experience of a payroll size of c400-600 staff – desirable
Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s):
· Timely processing of payroll on a monthly basis, producing payslips, summary figures and HMRC reporting on time every month
· Accurate processing of payroll on a monthly basis, minimising the number of payroll queries
